PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Phase #1 of Managed Return to School It has been fantastic to see students returning to school one day per week since the beginning of Week 3. Coming back to school after such a long break was exciting for the students and the staff have been delighted to be able to connect face-to-face with their class again. We even made the local NBN news: https://www.nbnnews.com.au/2020/05/12/slow-return-to-school-seemed-smooth-on-central-coast/ It was an enormous effort by our staff to move from traditional classroom teaching and learning to developing and supporting remote learning from home in such a short space of time. Thanks to all of our teachers and non-teaching staff for ensuring our student’s education and wellbeing has remained a strong focus over the past six school weeks. Thanks also for the outstanding support from our community and your amazing efforts supervising your children’s learning from home. We know this has been challenging at times, but you’ve all done an amazing job! However, as you may have seen in the media, the Premier of NSW and the Department of Education has announced that schools will return to full-time attendance of all students beginning this Monday, 25th of May. We have attached the DoE’s guide for parents and carers that was sent out to school last night for your information. Please take time to read this. The main points are:

Schools have been deemed safe to open for full-time attendance Students do not need to follow physical distancing guidelines but will need to continue to follow good hygiene

practices All students should be at school unless - they have a medical certificate - they are currently unwell You will receive your child’s Semester 1 report before the end of August There will be no inter-school visits, excursions or camps Students will need to continue to bring drink bottles as the bubblers are closed Additional cleaning services will continue throughout this term (including wiping down the playground) There will be no visitors on school grounds unless essential. School drop off and pick ups will continue to be done

at the school gates, with staff there to assist any students who may be feeling anxious The canteen and uniform shop will continue to operate with new social distancing guidelines.

Please be aware that schools will continue to be particularly vigilant when managing cold and flu-like symptoms. Parents/carers will be contacted to pick up their child if they are unwell. If your child is not feeling well before school please keep them at home and contact the school where they can be marked as sick on the roll. Please remember that if you have any questions or are uncertain about anything, give us a call on 4328 4433 or email on [email protected] Adults on School Grounds To keep everyone on school grounds safe we need to minimise the number of adults on the school site as stipulated by the NSW Department of Education. On the days that your children attend school we ask that you do a ‘kiss and drop off’ at all entry points to the school, outside the school gate where there will be a staff member. We are asking at this point in time that no adult, other than staff, enter the school grounds which includes afternoon pick-ups. Children will be walked to the gate that they were dropped off at. Your support with this is greatly appreciated. School Hours A reminder to all parents that there is no supervision in the morning until 8:30am. Please do not send your child to school before that time. We have children arriving as early at 7:30am when there are no teachers on-site which is a serious safety concern. We are extremely fortunate to have a before and after school care service on-site. Please contact them to make arrangements if you require care before 8:30am.

Canteen The school canteen is up and running from Wednesday - Friday with a modified menu. This is a wonderful service for the school community. Assembly Week 3 would usually be the week that a whole school assembly would be held. Unfortunately, at this current time we are unable to run many school events, including school assemblies, however the staff felt that it was extremely important to continue to recognise the efforts and achievements of our students. Class awards have been handed out (a list of recipients can be found in this newsletter). Awards were given to those who have been working at school and also to those who are learning from home. If your child was a recipient they will receive their award on the day they are at school. For those learning from home we will send them to your house. Congratulations to our award winners, keep up the great work! Kindergarten 2021 We are currently taking Kindergarten enrolments for 2021. If you have a child who will be enrolling next year please contact the school to arrange for the collection of enrolment papers. If you also know of families who are in our zone and enrolling next year please encourage them to do the same. Mrs Anderson will provide further details regarding dates for our Kindergarten information night shortly. Narara Valley High School Selective Classes Please contact the school for enrolment forms if you are interested in your Year 6 child applying for either the Creative and Performing Arts Class (CAPA) or the Targeted Sports Program (TSP) at NVHS. Information regarding these classes can also be found on the NVHS website or Facebook page.

Have a great week, Kirsty Squires

Principal

These regular procedures are different to what was offered during the learning from home period. If you require work to be provided to your child whilst they are at home due to an underlying health condition, you should contact the school for assistance. Please note, students who live with a family member in one of the categories identified as being at increased risk by the AHPPC, should attend school unless a medical practitioner advises otherwise in writing. You will receive your child’s semester 1 report before the end of August (week 6, Term 3). This may be a simplified version of the report you normally receive. Schools are encouraged to discuss your child’s progress with you before the written report is issued. School grounds There should be no visitors to school sites unless they are essential. Your school can provide guidance as to who

is considered essential. Your school will provide advice on drop off and pick up procedures. Wherever possible, P&C and parent/carer/teacher meetings should be conducted virtually. Canteens and uniform shops can open at the discretion of the principal. Out of school hours care can continue to operate. Community use of school facilities will recommence only for uses that are necessary for continuation of

education and with principal’s approval. Responding to COVID-19 cases There is a clear plan in place for schools to respond to any suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our schools. We are working closely with NSW Health and will communicate with parents if a situation was to arise.

CANTEEN NEWS

Thank you to the students who placed lunch orders last week. It was great to be back. The canteen IS open for LUNCH ORDERS only on Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays. Changes to our menu? For the next few weeks will continue with a restricted menu, however our menu still meets the Healthy Canteen guidelines. The menu can be found in the school newsletter and Skoolbag App. Health and safety We are continuing to follow the strict health and safety measures we implemented in Term 1 during the initial COVID-19 outbreak to minimise the risk of exposure to the school community and ensure responsible practices are taking place. This includes: Continuing correct hand washing procedures. We have hand sanitiser available at the counter Students are sent down to the canteen to place their lunch orders 1 class at a time – this minimises lots of

students waiting. Gloves are worn when handling money. We thank you for your understanding during this time and will update the school community of any changes.
