The heart of North Central Wash-ington is known for fresh,

locally grown, organic foods, and for professional caterers who combine local ingredients into a mouthwater-ing feast.

In the Methow Valley, profession-al growers lovingly produce organ-ic fruits, vegetables and grains that are kissed by the sun and nourished with spring water. In green pastures

bordered by melodic creeks, goats hap-pily graze and frolic. From their milk, cheese makers create a variety of small-batch chèvre, f lavored with chives and garlic from the garden, or with lavender from the fields nearby.

Bart and Sue Northcott of B-S Bar-B-Que use farm-raised, grass-fed organic meats and locally grown fruits and veg-gies to feed a crowd. Start the wedding weekend with a classic summer-night grilling party that includes country-style spare ribs, baked beans, salads, rolls and dessert.

Stewart Dietz creates her menus based on fresh seasonal foods grown in the Methow Valley. Local artisan cheeses, wine, beer and grains are incorporated in every menu to complement the lo-cally grown produce and meats.

Dietz has extensive experience in event planning and catering weddings. She provides linens, tents, glassware, setup and cleanup. Decadent photos of her creations can be found on her Face-book page and website.

Kathy Borgersen, owner of Sunf lower Catering & Events, is a familiar figure at catered events around the valley and can put together a sumptuous table for parties large and small.

Local bakeries create delicate pas-tries from grains, eggs, milk and fruit all gathered right here in the beautiful Methow Valley, sweetened with honey produced by local bees.

Rocking Horse Bakery in Winthrop cre-ates a selection of goodies featuring local ingredients. Menu items include pastries, breads, salads and sandwiches. Cin-namon Twisp Bakery and the Mazama

Store also can handle special orders.A visit to the Methow Valley would

The essential elements of any big event are coordination, the “look,”

photography and the sound system. Methow Valley professionals are ready to make your big day unfor-gettable and worry-free.

The plannerWedding planner Autumn Jateff

began her experience by work-ing with caterers at large events.

She found herself naturally stepping into a coordination role as she orga-nized events and communicated with vendors.

Jateff enjoys planning and coordinat-ing all the details months before an event so it all comes together without a hitch on the day that a couple gets hitched.

Jateff has the contacts in the valley to meet every style and budget. After meeting with couples to discuss their vision and budget, she designs a wedding plan that includes f lowers, rentals, a DJ, location, caterers and photographers.

After deciding on a wedding theme with the couple, Jateff will book ser-vices and rentals. She then creates a checklist and a detailed timeline that is distributed to all vendors.

For the rehearsal, she oversees on-site set-up and works with the DJ, who will emcee the event and maintain the f low of the reception.

On the day of the wedding, Jateff works in the background to ensure the day runs smoothly, even when the unexpected occurs. “I always have a backup plan. If it rains, we have tents or indoor options,” she said. “I always have something else up my sleeve.”

Jateff is also a professional seamstress, which comes in handy for those last-minute unexpected alterations.

Her favorite wedding theme to date? “Clients from the coast wanted a rustic mountain wedding,” she said. “They

miliar with the breathtaking landscape of the Methow Valley. Beautiful rivers lined with colorful aspens and cotton-woods line the valley f loor. Waterfalls cascade along mountain trails, orchards full of blossoms in spring transform dramatically later in the season with branches covered in peaches, bright red cherries and colorful apples.

To capture your moments in time, the photographers will want to get to know you and find out what makes your story

unique. Generally, couples meet well in advance of the wedding to discuss pric-ing and options, and then have another meeting on location to plan out how the day will unfold.

Teri Pieper, owner of Ref lected Light Images in Winthrop, is a professional wedding photographer known for cap-turing moments that make every wed-ding unique. Her specialty is “capturing the light of the day and the season,” she said. For Pieper, the main attraction of the Methow Valley as a destination for weddings is the natural beauty of the area. With all the varied terrain in the valley, no two wedding photos ever look alike.

Sol Gutierrez loves to create pictures that tell stories. Her style has been de-scribed as organic, modern and photo-journalistic. It is important to her that she is a good match for you. Gutierrez provides online galleries, prints and personalized photo albums with a va-riety of artistic covers in different tex-tiles, colors and designs.

Wedding photos tell a complete story from start to finish. The story may begin the night before at a rehearsal barbecue, and it might continue on the next day and include action foot-age of you and your guests enjoying

everything the Methow Valley has to offer. The photo montage may include details of couples getting ready, f lowers being arranged, and of moments being shared between mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, or friends and family.

For each of these moments, you will want a photographer who will honor the details of your love story in the Methow Valley.

The soundsNoah Ashford, owner of Boom Boom

Productions, wants to know what moves you and what you want your party to be like. Working with Ashford starts with an email or phone call to schedule the event. He will then work with whatever you give him, whether it’s a full play list, a handful of songs or suggested genres — even live bands. Ashford will then create a mock play list that includes a wide variety of music.

“People want the right mix as the crowd changes throughout the eve-ning,” Ashford said.

Ashford has professionally DJed for five years. His entire life has been spent immersed in music, “It has always been musical. I got my first guitar when I was 7 or 8 years old, and I’ve always

had a guitar since then,” he said.Music has always been a “driving

force” in his life, Ashford said. “I’ve always been the guy who gravitated to the album collections in people’s homes, and made mixtapes for every-one. This love of music and mixing tunes has grown into Boom Boom Productions.”

Ashford provides sound systems for the entire ceremony, from start to finish. Two separate sound systems are set up: one for the ceremony and one for the reception. For the ceremony, a

Ashford works with the wedding planner to ensure the ceremony and re-ception move along smoothly.

“The best part of DJing is feeling tran-sition between the ceremony, cocktails, dinner and, finally, the dance,” Ashford said. “I’m in the background, the music is not overpowering — people come from all over to visit and catch up with one another. When the music just fits, it makes the night. Everybody is happy, having a good time. That makes it all worthwhile.”

Zach & Taylor Ferrill created a Western theme, with all the trimmings

At the edge of a meadow, a river f lows below rocky cliffs. In the dis-

tance, pine-covered mountain ridges

touch the sky. Here, Zach and Taylor Ferrill begin their lives together in the same spot where they will spend their lives together — on land Taylor recently inherited from her

grandmother in the Methow Valley.A warm summer sun illumi-

nates the tall grasses that sway in the breeze like waves rolling across

the ocean. A false barn front serves as an entryway to the outdoor gathering. The guest book lies open on a table sur-rounded by photos of Taylor and Zach.

A musician softly strums his guitar as 500 guests settle on hay bales draped with white sheets. The wedding pro-grams, made of heavy cardstock and at-tached to wooden dowels, conveniently serve double-duty when used as hand-held fans.

At the far side of the meadow, the groom and his men swing their legs up and over the broad backs of their wait-ing horses. They ride abreast through the meadow. Upon arriving at the wedding site, the groom dismounts and strides to the front of the waiting crowd.

Taylor and her bridesmaids soon arrive in a horse-drawn buggy along

with the f lower girls. When the car-riage stops at the entryway, the grooms-men assist the ladies as they step to the ground. Two-by-two, they stroll down the aisle to acoustic music.

Taylor meets Zach under their future ranch gate that, on this day, serves as the wedding arch at the front of the crowd. Gauzy drapes sway in the gentle wind, framing a view of the pristine Methow River. A blue-and-taupe flower swag tops the arch, and saddles hang on the fence that extends to either side of the gate.

Practical considerationsTaylor, usually clad in jeans and

boots, selected her vintage lace dress with two goals in mind. “I really wanted to look girly, but I also wanted some-thing that would hold up in a muddy, dirty field,” she said.

The vintage lace was sturdy, and the Boulet tooled-leather boots that Zach picked out for Taylor gave the ensem-ble a classy, Western feel: strong and elegant.

of fresh f lowers because they held up during the heat of the day and kept their color and form through the cool of the night. The fabric bouquets and arrangements are also keepsakes to re-member the day.

The reception took place under large white tents provided by North Cas-cades Safari, a local guide service and employer of the groom. North Cas-cades Safari also provided camp cooks to prepare the dinner. Family mem-bers provided meats for grilling, while friends Marva Mountjoy and Lynn Clark headed up the food commit-tee and organized an army of wedding

guests that brought salads. Strings of party lights illuminated the

meadow, and guests danced all night long while Jumper Flats from Water-ville performed onstage.

Noah Ashford of Boom Boom Pro-ductions coordinated the sound system. Alex Bosco caught the day on video and Pamela Grillo Photography of Waterville captured the day from start to finish in still photos. Claude Miller, Zach’s grandfather, helped with every aspect of the wedding.

“We wanted our wedding to ref lect our Western lifestyle,” Taylor said. “It was so much work, and so worth it.”
