Hear What Others Are Saying!People always told me the best Bunny Chow was in Durban. It was a hot summers day when I went to Irene@Smuts market at the Museum. I was not prepared for what I saw. The curry was already freshly prepared and bubbling in the pot. Imagine the hot curry on fresh bread with chunky pieces of meat soaking in gravy, softly cooked potatoes, pungent aroma, soggy salad and some mango pickle and chilli on the side not forgetting the warm friendly people serving us. We dug right into the mouth-watering mutton bunny chow at the outdoor seating place under the trees in the shade. I was filled to the brim and yet I felt for more, so I went back and bought another two to take home for dinner for my friend and I. This was by far the best Bunny I’ve ever eaten. – Marius Pienaar

Memories of good times came flooding back to mind as I wandered around the Irene@Smuts market at the museum. I have visited this place regularly in the past but this time it was different. There is something in the air that is unexplainable. After I bought some art from one of their local artists I was spell bound by the market at the Smuts House Museum that offers kids entertainment, a fully-licensed tea garden, numerous food stalls and an incredible array of exhibits and home made goods. After walking around for 20 minutes I noticed there were awesome picnic spots almost everywhere. I whatsapp’d my friends in my group and told them to spend the rest of their day with me. It was an experience we’ve never regretted. We all had a blast in our spot away from the crowds and had Bunny Chows for lunch. It was an incredibly awesome day and not only because it was my birthday but the awesome people and friendly atmosphere. - Andre Nell

Wow, Wow, Wow! I had no intention of eating as my Mom had invited us for dinner. I love my Mom’s home cooked meals. As I walked past the Deli court past Ouma’s Kitchen the atmosphere was filled with delicious aromas such like I’ve never experienced before. But there was a very distinctive aroma that came from Val’s Spice4Life. There she was smiling at me as if to say you’ve got to try my curry. Now I’m a fussy girl and am not used to eating hot spicy foods but the tantalizing aroma drew me closer and closer. I could not resist the temptation to try when I saw the beautiful colour of her curry. I ordered her Lamb Curry and Rice with salad for myself and my two friends. Needless to say, I was blown over. The curry was delicious but it did not burn my palate. I felt comfortable with the taste, called my Mom who told me she hadn’t started cooking, so back to Val’s Spice4Life and ordered dinner for all of us to take away before they closed. Mom said she’d never tasted anything like that in all her life. Mom will be visiting Irene@Smuts next week with all my friends to explore more of this incredible market. - Annalize Vermuellen. As family they deliver food with love and pride.
