Costa Mesa, CA – January 14, 2010 – The news from the environmental front seems to constantly be bleak. Sojourner’s Magazine states that due to the effects of climate change, 40 -170 million people are at increased risk of malnutrition and hunger, 200 million people will suffer from ravaging diseases like malaria and fevers, and 100 million will experience the devastating effects of coastal flooding. The disheartening news seems endless, but there is hope on the horizon. Vanguard University’s Students in Free Enterprise, or SIFE, aims to live up to their name by leading the charge in the battle against climate change by hosting the Environmental Sustainability Conference. This conference, held January 29, 2010 at Vanguard University from 8:30-4 PM, features Martin Diedrich, founder of Kéan Coffee, as its keynote speaker, who will focus on environmental innovation and creativity. Jamie Welsh, founder and CEO of 10% Solution, will host a panel of environmental experts who will offer their green  “know-how” and engage in audience questions. Various breakout sessions will be offered, allowing for a more informal atmosphere between attendees and speakers. A low-carbon lunch, catered by Bon Appétit, will be provided, fostering an opportunity for attendees to network with speakers and other participants, as well as experience an exhibition of local businesses employing eco-friendly practices. Two award winning documentaries concerning environmentalism and conservationism, The Story of Stuff and Garbage Dreams, will be shown, giving two very different insights into how everyday products are used and disposed. In the words of Diedrich, "Inspire by example. As an individual with a small business, you can make a difference." Together, a brighter future is possible.
