Cowra Public farewelled Ms
Dunk at the end of last
term. Mrs Lewis presented
Ms Dunk with a gift from
the students & staff.
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Welcome to Term 3! I hope all families had a wonderful winter break and
enjoyed the chance to relax and recharge with family and friends. The
children have come back ready and refreshed for another busy term, with
many having had a growth spurt over the holidays! I would like to extend a
warm welcome to our new families who have joined the CPS school
community and look forward to an exciting term ahead.
On Monday all CPS staff participated in a full day of professional learning
around the themes of “High Expectations Relationships” and “School
Culture”. We spent time discussing many of the wonderful and positive
aspects about belonging to Cowra Public School, and brainstormed ways
in which we can continue to build on these. One of these areas related to
our home-school partnerships and the staff are very keen to look at ways in
which we can strengthen these relationships in the future.
There are a few small changes to staffing this Term. Mrs Shavaughn
Duncan and Miss Jayne Sharkey will take on the PE/Sport role following Miss
Dunk’s move to Canowindra High School. Miss Sharkey will be teaching PE
to Dyirridyirri, Barrandhang and Yarraman, while Mrs Duncan will cover PE
for all remaining classes. Mrs Peterson and Miss Elbourne will be
implementing our new speech program run by Speech Therapist Ms Bianca
Lyons and together, will share the SLSO role in Bilbi. We look forward to
welcoming Ms Lyons to CPS and are very excited to offer an additional
layer of support to many of our students.
The Term 3 Calendar is filling up fast with Education Week
activities being planned for Week 3. Parents are
encouraged to come along to our ‘Open Classrooms Day’
and join us for “Billy’s Picnic Bonanza” lunch on Thursday
8th August. Please find a full schedule of CPS Education
Week activities inside this week’s newsletter!
This term we are also excited to host additional visits from all the Cowra
pre-schools as we continue our Kindergarten Transition program. Parents of
children attending Kindergarten in 2020 are warmly invited to come along
to our Parent Information Night on Thursday 8th August at 7pm, to meet the
teachers, tour the classrooms and ask any questions they may have about
their child starting school. Kindergarten 2020 enrolment packs are now
available from the office so please call in and see Mrs Williams, Mrs Rowston
or Mrs Taylor and pick up your pack. Any parents wanting a personal tour
of the school are encouraged to make an appointment - I would be
delighted to show you around!
Today all students attended the Jump Rope for Heart Launch in the school hall. CPS participate in this
important community fundraising event every two years and we are looking forward to participating in all
the fun and energetic lead-up activities prior to the Jump-Off which will be held during the last week of
Term. Thank you to Mrs Duncan for her organisation of this event.
As many families would be aware, this year marks the 75th Anniversary of the Cowra POW Breakout.
Our school has been invited to participate in the community commemorations and these include:
School Leader’s attendance at the Peace Bell Ceremony on Sunday August 4th
CPS students, families and staff invited to march in the lantern parade from the Japanese Gardens
to the POW site on Sunday 4th August at 5pm
School Leader’s attendance at the wreath-laying ceremony on Monday 5th August.
Primary students have been busy making lanterns and paper cranes which will form part of these
processions. Permission notes for these events will be sent home shortly.
Next week we look forward to welcoming Year 12 Cowra High student Hannah Keen for a week of work
experience, our Infants classes will have the opportunity to participate in some active sessions with the AFL
Development Team and we have our July P&C Meeting on Tuesday night at 6pm in the staffroom – all
parents welcome. We also look forward to our first assemblies for Term 3 which will be held at 11:45am for
Primary and 2:15pm for Infants on Friday 2nd August.
Have a great week…

SPORT REPORT:
I am very excited to be back in the PE/SPORT role for this term and Miss Sharkey and I are very
much looking forward to working with all of the students at Cowra Public. I wish Miss Dunk all the
very best in her new role at Canowindra High School and will keep her updated about the
sporting achievements of our students as I know she is very keen to hear about the students she
has worked with over the past 18 months.
We have a busy term ahead and I will keep the school community informed about sporting
activities through the newsletter and the school FB page.
AFL Clinics:
Next Wednesday our K-2 students will be involved in an AFL clinic at school run by Casey White
our AFL Development Officer. Each session is free and will run for approximately 30 minutes. This
will be 'taster" of skills and basic information about the game. These are always lots of fun and a
great way for our students to learn more about playing the game of AFL.
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART:
JRFH is coming!!!! We are participating in the Jump Rope For Heart Program again this year and
our launch takes place at 12:30 today in the Auditorium. This is a program which our school has
participated in over a number of years and is a fantastic way to promote fun and fitness across
the whole school while supporting a very worthwhile cause. Fundraising details will be provided in
next week's newsletter and on the FB page.
PRIMARY SPORT:
Primary sport will continue as it did for Term 2. Any money which was paid last term will be carried
across to this term's activities. Those students who are new to our school or who did not return a
note for sport last term will be issued with notes to be completed and returned as soon as
possible.
DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL:
Congratulations to our Athletics team who will be representing Cowra Public at the Cowra District
Athletics Carnival at Henry Lawson High School in Grenfell on Friday the 23rd of August. The list of
athletes is printed below. Permission notes will be distributed over the next few days, any students

Our Girls’ Touch Football team who
played against Canowindra last term.
They played an excellent game but
were beaten by a stronger team.
Well done girls!
During the last week of Term 2 Caitlin and Erin Fraser attended a
Band Camp. They would like to share their experience on the
camp.
When I arrived at band camp I was excited but also a little
nervous. Di, the lady in charge, was really nice and we were soon
settled into our cabin.
During band camp we rehearsed for about 4 hours each day.
That might sound tiring and sometimes it was, but I still had fun.
The music was definitely harder than what I was used to but I
came back from camp a better player than before.
As well as rehearsals we had tutorials. I play clarinet and my
tutors were Hannah, Talia and Brendon, they were amazing and
they taught us to become more confident musicians.
We also did recreation activities like archery, fencing, boomerang
making and my favourite - rock climbing.
At the end of the camp we went on tour. The concert was heaps
of fun. I am so glad I was lucky enough to go to band camp and I
hope I can go back next year.
Caitlin Fraser
I was lucky enough to go to regional band camp during the last
week of Term 3. Sometimes the music was really challenging but
we had amazing tutors that helped us through it. My tutor, Jess
was really confident and was really funny.
It was fantastic to play in such a big band and we even got to go
on tour. The food wasn’t great but we got to do archery, rock
climbing, fencing and made boomerangs. I made some great
friend.
