Putting your cleaner together

Remove your Rapide XL from thecarton with caution. The handle is connected to the body by a cord.

Note: Do not tug or pull on thecord.

Line up the handle to the upperbody of the machine and slide intoplace.

Secure from the back with the twosmaller screws.

Putting your cleaner together

Feed the cord through the slots onthe back of the handle and pushinto place.

Place a nut into the recess in theback of the upper handle. Whileholding the nut in place insert oneof the large screws through thefront of the upper handle and tighten.Repeat the process with the secondscrew.

Remove the backing tape from thescrew cover and press into place.

Clean water tank

Note: Make sure the cleaning solution tank is resting in place withthe solution tube pressed fully intotube opening.

Line up the grooves of the cleanwater tank with the support postsinside the handle. Tilt the top ofclean water tank inward and pushuntil it locks into place.

To install the tool caddy, line up thetabs of the tool caddy storage withround tabs on the back of thehandle (above quick cord clip).

Slide the tool caddy downwardsuntil it is secured in place.

Note: The tool caddy can beremoved for storage on a wall.

Connect upholstery attachment toend of hose by pressing until itclicks into place.

Push upholstery attachment intothe left hose clip, wrap the hosearound the tool caddy starting onthe back groove of the storagecaddy.Secure into place by pushing theend of the hose into the hose clipon the right. Press the solution/hose clip onto the hose to securethe solution tube in place (4a).

Pre-treating your carpetswith the pre-treatment wandand solution

Remove the clean water tank bypressing the clean water tankrelease and pulling the tank by thehandle. Put to one side to fill later.

While the clean water tank isremoved, loosen the solution tankby gently pushing out the solutionplug from the plug opening.

Note: The solution tank can befilled while it is attached to thecleaner but you should use carewhen refilling.

Remove the solution tank by pullingup and out.

Note: After spraying rinse themachine and pre-treatment wandwith clean water. Wash the carpetas described in this guide, usingVAX AAA carpet cleaner.

Pre-treating your carpets withthe pre-treatment wand andsolution

Remove solution tank cap. CAUTION: Do not overfill. You should leave 1-2 cm of air space.

Fill the tank with pre-treatment solution.

Replace the solution tank cap.Return the solution tank to thecleaner making sure the solutiontube lines up with the groove in theback of the solution tank. Firmlypress the solution tube into the plugopening of the solution tank.

CAUTION: Maximum watertemperature 40°C.

Remove the clean water tank capand put in a safe place. Slowly fill theclean water tank with warm tap water(max 40°C) and replace the cap.

Return clean water tank by liningup the grooves of the clean watertank with the support posts on theinside of the handle. Rock cleanwater tank inward until it locks intoplace.

Attach the pre-treatment wand tothe pre-treatment water supply portat the back of the machine. Pressfirmly until it locks into place. N.B Once the pre-treatment wandis attached it can remain in placebetween pre-treatments

Pre-treating your carpets withthe pre-treatment wand andsolution

Using the wand and the trigger,apply pre-treatment solution to carpets. Turning the spray nozzleclockwise or anti-clockwise will alter the spray pattern.

To pre-treat carpets be sure that thebrush switch is OFF and that thepower and soap switches are turnedON. The pre-treatment solution andwater automatically mix within themachine.

Releasing the trigger will stop solution flow. The treated areasshould be left for 10 to 15 minutes.For heavy stains, mild agitation maybe used.

Note: Do not over wet carpets.

How to operate your cleaner - setting up

Remove the clean water tank bypressing the clean water tankrelease and pulling the tank by thehandle. Put to one side to fill later.

While the clean water tank isremoved, loosen the solution tankby gently pushing out the solutionplug from the plug opening.

Note: The solution tank can befilled while it is attached to thecleaner but you should use carewhen refilling.

Remove the solution tank by pullingup and out.

Note: The float in your Rapide XL is the transparent, pivoting moulded part in the dirty water tank, it will shut off the suctionwhen the dirty water tank is full. For best results use a smooth steady motion keeping the nozzle flat against the carpet.Tipping the cleaner and breaking the seal of the nozzle against the carpet will cause the float to rise cutting off suction. Oncethe float is activated, empty the dirty water tank.If the tank does not appear full turn off the power switch and wait for the float to settle. For best results use only VAX AAACarpet Cleaner.

How to operate yourcleaner

Fill the tank with VAX AAA Carpet Cleaner.The cleaner can be stored with solution in thesolution tank. It does not have to be removedafter each use. However the solution tanksshould be rinsed out periodically.

Note: One fill up of the solution tank will last forapproximately 4 clean water reservoir fill ups.

Turn main power switch, brushswitch and soap switch all to theON position.

How to operate your cleaner

To spray cleaning solution, depressthe solution release trigger (3a) andmove the cleaner backward and forward. Release the trigger andpush the unit back and forth in thesame track to remove dirty waterand solution from the carpet.For heavily soiled areas, repeat ifnecessary.

To rinse your carpet, turn the soapswitch to the OFF position. Repeatthe same process (as in step 3)

How to carry your cleaner

Grab the carrying handle on theback of the cleaner to transport fromroom to room. Do not pick the cleaner up by theclean water tank handle.

Power Brush Soap Result

ON ON ON Vacuum, pump, brushbar and soap areturned on. Used towash carpets.

ON ON OFF Vacuum, pump, brushbar are turned on.Used to rinse carpets.

ON OFF ON Vacuum, pump andsoap are turned on.Used for cleaningthrough attachments.

ON OFF OFF Vacuum and pumpturned on. Used forrinsing through attachments or dirtywater pick-up withbrushbar off.

OFF ON/OFF ON/OFF No power to vacuum,pump, brushbar andsoap. The powerswitch must be on forany motors to function.

Hose attachments

Put the cleaner in its upright position. Turn the brush switch andpower switch to the off position.

Remove the hose from its storedposition on the back of the cleaner.Lift the hose attachment coverlocated on the top of the dirty watertank.

Insert the end of the hose into thetool opening and twist clockwiseuntil it locks into place.

Attach the water supply connectorinto the hose water supply port atthe side of the machine. Pressfirmly until it locks into place.

Move the floor/tools selector to thetools (upward) position.

To wash upholstery, be sure thatthe brush switch is OFF and thatthe power and soap switches areturned ON.

Note: Do not allow upholstery tobecome too wet.

Hose attachments

While depressing the blue solution spray trigger, pull the attachment in a downwardmotion. Release the trigger and push theattachment forward in the same path toremove dirty water and solution from upholstery. For heavily soiled areas, repeat ifnecessary. To rinse, remember to turn thesoap switch to the OFF position and repeatprocess.Note: Make sure upholstery is thoroughlydry before using.

Remove the hose from the fitting bytwisting it counterclockwise tounlock. Close the hose attachmentcover until it snaps into place.

Disconnect water supply connectorfrom the water supply port bypressing the grey button andpulling.

Move the tool/floor selector to thefloor position (upward).

Return tools to their storage position on the back of the cleaner.

Emptying the dirtywater tank

Depress the dirty water tank latchand simultaneously pull the dirtywater tank nozzle tab up and awayfrom the cleaner.

Remove the dirty water tank bylifting the dirty water tank handleand pulling the tank out of the base.

Note: The nozzle does not need tobe completely removed to emptythe dirty water tank.

Place the dirty water tank over alarge sink and remove the dirtywater tank cap by twisting it to theleft (counterclockwise) and out in asafe place. Empty the water intothe sink.

Insert the four AA batteries intoyour Power Wash Brush inlocations shown. Next see section17 for machine preparation.

Now attach the Power Wash Brushto the hose attachment by pushinghose end into Power Wash Brushuntil it clicks into place. In order torelease solution onto the desiredareas depress the blue solutionspray trigger. Release the triggerand press the Power Button toactivate the Power Wash Brush.Use Brush on desired areas, repeatas necessary.

To rinse, remember to turn the soapswitch to the OFF position and repeatprocess. If further drying is requiredswitch off the Power Wash Brush andgo over the area again. To removePower Wash Brush from hose pushRelease Button as shown. Whenfinished See section 18 parts 8-11 fordisconnection and storageinstructions.

Dirty water tank can be rinsed outwith hot tap water to remove anyremaining debris. Wipe and let drythoroughly before storing to preventmildew from forming.

Note: Do not use any chemicalswhen cleaning.

Return the dirty water tank cap. Lift the dirty water tank handle andpull out the filter to clean. Rinseunder hot water and return to thedirty water tank.

Emptying the dirtywater tank

Return dirty water tank to the baseof the cleaner by tipping the nozzledown into the basin and dropping itinto place.

Lift the front of the cleaner base offthe carpeting with one hand. Lineup the black tabs with the groovesof the front nozzle. Lift the frontnozzle upwards towards thecleaner and press under the latchuntil it locks into place.

Belt or brush removaland replacement

Remove dirty water tank and frontnozzle (see page 20) put them toone side.

Use a Phillips screwdriver toremove two (2) screws.

Remove the belt cover. Remove thebroken belt.

1. Loop the belt around the rear shaft.2. Loop the top of the belt above the small

pulley and the bottom of the belt around thelower small pulley.

3. Feed the entire belt over the first large pulley.4. Loop the belt around the front large pulley

and rotate the front brushbar forward until thebelt is in place.

Note: Make sure the entire belt stays on top ofthe first large pulley by lightly placing a finderon top to guide it.

Return the nozzle cover to the original position.Secure by replacing the two (2)screws.

Remove the screw that holds thebrushbar in place.

Tilt cleaner off the carpet. Graspthe brush bar and pull the right sideof its chamber.Tilt the brushbar down to theground and remove the silver cap.Slide the worn brushbar out of thecleaner.

To install a new brushbar. Feed thebrushbar through the opening untilthe screw plate and screw hole arelined up (as above).

Note: The black cap behind thesilver screw plate will be through thehole.

Replace the silver cap to right sideof the brushbar. Lift the brushbar upand align with the brushbarchamber. Push the screw platetowards the screw hole until theflush and replace the screw.
