A little history, boring but important

•The first volleyball net, borrowed from tennis, was only 6'6" high.

•The offensive style of setting and spiking was first demonstrated in the Philippines in 1916. Over the years that followed, it became clear that standard rules were needed for tournament play, and that’s when the USVBA (United States Volleyball Association) was formed in 1928.

Page 4: Vball Slideshow

•Two years later, the first 2-man beach volleyball game was played, though the professional side of the sport did become big until later on. The first beach volleyball tournament took place in California.

Play-

•Can be played outside or inside and can be played with any amount of people.

•There are two kinds of volleyball

Page 12: Vball Slideshow

Bump, Set, Spike

•There are three hits on a side.•First a bump, then a set, and then a spike.

Page 13: Vball Slideshow

ACTIVITY!

•Get into groups of 3 and practice the bump set and spike. Once you all get a chance to try all three hits, come back to your seats.

Page 14: Vball Slideshow

Think-

•1. Was it easy for you to get all three of the hits in?

•2. What were some of the important concepts to look at to make this go smoothly?

Page 15: Vball Slideshow

Important

Communication is key!!!! In order to have a successful spike, all players must communicate!

Page 16: Vball Slideshow

Communication activity

•Get into groups of no more than four, and come up with six words that will work well on the court. When you are done, get back into your group of three and see how well the words help with the neatness of your game.
