1. Send a handwritten note

Yes, not an email, a hand written, put in an envelope note.

2. Clip and send an article of interest.

Often, when you find a link that addresses a specific need a customer had asked about recently, this works to show you've remembered them.

3. Talk to a satisfied client and ask who else you might help.

Or, ask for a recommendation on your LinkedIn profile, not the checkbox endorsement, but the written referral in their own words.

4. Send a thank-you gift to someone who referred you.

Many of those gifts that I've received, like the drink cup from SEOmoz are within eye sight on my desk today. They're an important part of doing things.

To 'track' a business card, I've used different taglines below the company name so I know how the card got to that person, for the ones I leave at the Chamber of Commerce for instance.

Right, but what also works the same on a smaller scale is a comment in a blog or online community that your clients frequent.

Or Blog subscribers to your blog, or followers on your Facebook/Google Plus page, or Twitter followers, etc, etc.

Show you know your client's time is important and respect that.
