VectorWorks SPOTLIGHTAll the tools and technology you need from the standard in entertainment and lighting design software
VectorWorks SPOTLIGHT merges sophisticated 2D drafting and powerful 3D modeling with advanced lighting, visualization, and production tools. It’s easy to draft light plots, create stunning set designs, automate paperwork, and visualize design concepts in 3D. All in one cost-effective, easy-to-learn, easy-to-use application.
Easy to learn and use
VectorWorks Spotlight is easier to learn and use than traditional CAD programs, so you can do what you do best— design. And since VectorWorks Spot-light is tailored to the lighting and scene and set design production pro-cess, it works the way you think.
VectorWorks Spotlight allows you to design with real-world lighting, scene, and set components. You can easily import base plans, then sketch out your ideas with 2D drawing tools. With VectorWorks Spotlight, you can rework, refine, develop, and document your design with lighting instruments, instrument accessories, curtains, and
even straight and curved trusses. All objects are easy to edit and automati-cally display correctly in 2D and 3D views. So creating 3D models of your 2D drawings is fast and easy.
A complete solution
Unlike most other lighting and enter-tainment design programs, VectorWorks Spotlight offers a comprehensive range of 2D, 3D, and production management capabilities that benefit all phases of the design process, saving you extra time and effort. With this one program, you can create all the detailed working drawings you need. You can also easily visualize your design in 3D and create animated walk-throughs.

Generate light plots
Precision 2D drafting tools and advanced lighting-design objects make laying out light plots a snap. You can quickly define lighting positions, hang instruments, and create instrument position summaries. Advanced tools allow you to easily create multi-circuit instruments, gang instruments, add accessories, assign instruments to focus areas, show light beams in 2D and 3D, and animate lighting cues.
Extensive instrument libraries
With VectorWorks Spotlight, there’s no need to purchase separate symbol libraries. You get free access to hundreds of lighting instruments and accessories from more than 17 leading manufacturers, such as Altman, Arri, Clay Paky, ETC, High End Systems, Lycian, Martin, Mole-Richardson, Morpheus, NSI Colortran, Powerline, Robert Juliat, Selecon, SGM, Strand, Strong, Vari-Lite, and Wybron.
Intelligent label legend manager
Label legends make it easy to define and manage the labels and label for-matting for lighting instruments. You can define up to eight label fields and easily position them by simply dragging them on or around the instrument. You can give each label its own look by assigning it a font, size, style, justi-fication, and color. Once placed, labels can be repositioned by simply dragging them to a new location.
Automated paperwork
As you design, VectorWorks Spotlight will track instrument and accessory data used in the light plot. You can automatically generate instrument and color schedules, as well as channel, dimmer, and circuit-hookup schedules. You can also create comprehensive inventory reports, magic sheets, color cut lists, and hanging cards.
Easily share drawings and data
You can export VectorWorks Spotlight data to Excel® and database programs such as FileMaker™ and Lightwright™.VectorWorks Spotlight’s Export ASCII Patch command exports dimmer and channel information to a USITT standard ASCII text patch file that can be read by lighting consoles. You can also export and import DXF/DWG files, import images into your design, export your drawing and models as images, as well as include 3ds models in your scenes.
Calculate photometric data
VectorWorks Spotlight automatically calculates and displays the illumination values of an area in either foot-candles or lux. Or you can use the photometer to calculate and display the illumina-tion values at specific elevation points.
Create the venue
You can easily import venues as DXF/DWG files and use them as base layers in your design. Or you can use the suite of architectural, scene, stage, and set design tools within VectorWorks Spotlight to create venues from scratch. You’ll find time-saving objects to help you with adding curtains, erecting trusses, and laying out seating areas. VectorWorks Spotlight also includes a suite of building objects such as walls, doors, windows, ramps, and stairs, to help you draw your venue.
Create scene and set elements
Precision 2D drafting tools and power-ful free-form modeling capabilities, combined with an extensive library of architectural scenic objects and a library of detailing tools, allow you to easily mock up and visualize your designs in 3D, and create detailed 2D shop drawings. You can also easily create scenic elements such as escape stairs, platforms, trusses, and curtains.
High-end visualization capabilities
VectorWorks Spotlight and RenderWorks team up to make your designs come to life. Advanced render-ing capabilities in RenderWorks allow you to create realistic atmospheric effects by showing light beams, mapping sophisticated textures to objects, adding shadows, and using images as backgrounds. Your 2D designs are transformed into dynamic photorealistic presentations.
For softer, more artistic effects, choose one of the RenderWorks non-photorealistic rendering modes. You can choose from more than 3,000 gobo patterns from leading manufac-turers, such as Apollo Designs, GAM, Lee, High End Systems, and Rosco, or create your own custom gobos. You can also create impressive animations of your scene changes or virtual tours your clients can navigate in real time.
With support for ESP Vision™, you can now simulate your VectorWorks Spotlight designs in real time. ESP Vision’s advanced presentation and support for lighting consoles allows you to not only pre-visualize your show, but actually run it.
