September Social - Meeting Minutes Justin Elliott opened the September HOG social at 6:30 p.m. by thanking veterans and first responders who were present at the meeting. We pledged allegiance to the flag. And we offered good wishes to those members celebrating a birthday or anniversary during September. New members were asked to introduce themselves. John Lyon gave us an update on the construction project -- all is going according to plans at this point.

1. There will be a ‘Dynas and Donuts’ event at the dealership on Saturday the 26th in the a.m. 2. Customer Appreciation Night will be October 3rd at the dealership beginning at 6 p.m. The parking lot should be paved

in time for the event. 3. The 2016 models are out. There are significant changes on the Softail models. 4. The service department is very busy – plan ahead for scheduling routine service appointments.

Upcoming Rides:

Camp Ta-Kum-Ta charity ride on September 12th

Lake George ride with Wilkins’ employees on Sept. 22nd – leaving Wilkins at 3:30 p.m.

Please see Wilkins Facebook page calendar for other planned chapter rides.

Justin Elliott shared that there will be another Experienced Rider Course held in May 2016, in Berlin, VT. The Iron Adventure event will return to Ludlow in July 2016. It is hoped that chapter members will volunteer to help with the event. Chris Deane reminded us that the Chapter will be volunteering at the Vermont Foodbank in November. The Bake Sale Auction took place. Homemade pies, brownies, and fudge were auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Chap-ter. Then we had delicious chili and corn bread, made by Mi Yong –yummy! Reminder: the Christmas Hop will be December 5th. Cost is $25 per person. Richard Pitonyak will be the DJ. Submitted by Chapter Secretary and Historian, Linda Lamell

Hello Everyone, It’s finally beginning to feel like Fall, but there's still some great riding left in the season, so I hope you all are able to get out and en-joy it before the dreaded

snow begins to fly. Since we have to begin thinking about winter, I want to remind everyone of the Harley Holiday Hop on Saturday December 5 at The Steak House. This is a new venue and is sure to be a great time! Please see page s 8 & 9 of the newslet-ter for full details. We have emailed registration forms to all

members (that we have email addresses for) and will have them available at the next social on October 13. On November 21, we will be volunteering at the VT Foodbank in Barre. We are al-lowed 20 participants max, so this is a first come, first served event. I will have a sign-up sheet at the October social, so if you are interested in giving back to your local community, please sign up soon. Hope to see you all at the next social and/or on the last chapter ride of the year! Take care and ride safe! Chris

Hi everyone, I hope everyone was able to get some miles behind you in September. The weather was beautiful all month. Chris took us on a nice ride to New York. We went to Malone and down to Saranac for lunch. From there, we traveled over to Tupper Lake and back to VT. It was a great ride on some very nice roads. Justen did his NH seacoast ride which I was unable to go on but from what I heard it was a fun time for all. This past Sunday we went on a great ride to Mt Equinox in Manchester, led by Dennis. We were able to get to the top this time. The views were great, you could see for miles. This Sunday we will have our last Chapter ride of the season. This is a ride Leon was going to do but is unable to, so I will be leading this one. It is posted as mystery ride and we will leave Wilkins at 10:00 am. We will be touring some country roads, having a lunch stop, and hoping to see some pretty foliage. Enjoy the rest of the season and ride safe everyone! Kevin

Vee Twin Rumblings

I recently took a 4,544 mile, two week motorcycle trip with a group of friends and as a result, I have become a better rider. On the first part of the trip we traveled interstates because we wanted to get there fast. I don't care for interstate travel much be-cause of the fast speed and lack of interesting things to see but I know it can get you there quickly. We had a group of 7 bikes so it can be tricky passing and staying together. When the leader wanted to pass, something that was helpful to the rest of the riders and to other vehicles, was not only to use his signal but also to point with his left arm, this was much more noticeable. Always try to stay close when entering and exiting ramps. Through this experience I have become more comfortable on interstates and better able to read the traffic which helps me to negotiate it and be safer. The group had to make a few quick stops at red lights in the city. We had squealing tires locked up and rubber on the road! Later, we discussed that 70% of your braking force is the front brake! So I had lots of practice, still using both brakes but squeezing the front brake and applying more pressure to it then the back brake. I can now come to a quicker stop more safely! When I first started riding, sharp corners scared me. Then I learned how to negotiate them and I looked forward to the curves. On this trip after riding the Cherohala Skyway, Tail of the Dragon and the Crooked Road of Virginia, to name a few, I Love Corners! First, we would ride single file, no staggered formation, spread out and give everyone their whole lane to ride within. Slow down be-fore you start to turn and evaluate the curve and where you want to be. Make sure you are in a low gear and just use your throttle. Turn your head, not just your eyes in the direction you want to to. Roll on the throttle smoothly and steadily as you go through the corner and exit out of it. I had lots of practice in these different situations over the two week trip and the experience has made me a safer rider and able to enjoy the ride more! Hopefully, we can all keep learning through riding and become more proficient, safer riders and have a great time! Marie
