For those who don’t know me my name is Michael Venable, however most people just call me Venable. I spend most my life playing sports and killing zombies. I love to play almost every sport and I love to fight zombies all the time any time. Even though I might not look like it, I did play football for Kellam for all 4 years of high school. Other than playing sports I enjoy watching movies, preferably Adam Sandler (even he hated High School) movies, cause he’s the greatest and if u don’t agree then you are retarded. Techno is the greatest music ever created and if you want to argue about it you can tell it to my little friend. As far as my writing skills are concern, there not that spectacular. I actually suck at writing. The only writing pieces I can make that are actually good are random stories I get to make up, other than that I’m awful at it, such as timed writings and boring writing topics. If I had to describe myself as a writer I would say I’m the creative type. This portfolio consist of a few childish writing pieces and some sloppy, uninteresting High School papers. So enjoy!!

Elementary Years

High School was a Pain

11th Grade English ’07-’08Dear Mrs. Shearin

Hi my names Michael Venable and I have no life. I play football for Kellam and go to school and that’s it. I began my dull painful days by waking up at six forty in the morning. I wonder around my house half zombie getting dressed and then next thing I know I’m in my first block class. I’m not going to lie I hate school its nothing but mental abuse. It doesn’t get any better once I make it through boring school. From there I walk two hundred yards to the stadium or should I say Hell. There begins my physical torture. That’s my life or at least for three more months. Truth is I don’t like football or school. Why I do it, I still don’t know.

Seriously though, I have a good life. I have a wonderful girlfriend, Brandi Burgess, who I have been dating for almost sixteen months. (Don’t judge me, I didn’t no what I no now) My family is super supportive in whatever I do. I have two sisters who make me mad a lot. The oldest one is named Maile she is twenty two years old and is student teaching up in Indiana. My other sister is Melia; she is eighteen and just began her first semester at T.C.C. My dad Mike Venable is in the navy so I move every three to four years. I moved here from Pensacola Florida two years ago. So far I have lived in Pensacola Florida twice, North Carolina, Indiana, Washington State, and here in VA Beach. My mom Sallie is a special Ed. Teacher.

If I had to describe my self for you I would tell you that I am honest hard working kid. I’m an easy going guy and it takes a lot to make me upset. I don’t like writing lots of papers unless it’s what I want to write about. I love it when a teacher gives me the opportunity to write a creative story. I have a strong imagination so creative stories are easy and fun for me to write. I really hope this year goes well for the both of us.

My soul, like the mind of a woman, is very complex. Every picture and color has a profound and emotional meaning. At first glance my soul appears bland and empty, but if one views deeper and more clearly my soul will tell them a story. My picture

represents my beliefs, my sorrows, and who I am as a person.My religious beliefs can be identified by the angel on top of the cliff. This angel represents two distinct things. The first

represents my guardian angel who is always watching over me (hence why the angel is on a cliff), and the second represents Saint Michael the Arch Angel. Saint Michael is viewed as the field commander of the army of god and protects us from the wickedness

and snares of the devil. In my picture the angel is watching over the Pirate ship.The pirate ship is who I am. The pirate ship represents my love for adventure and my desire to see the world. The calm

blue ocean that the ship sails upon represents my personality, and shows that I am calm and easy going. The ocean also represents vast freedom and my ability to do anything I want with my life. The ocean is endless just like the possibilities of my life. I can sail anywhere, and there is no end in sight. The choices are infinite! It also depicts that I will live forever spiritually in the hearts and

minds of others, when my physical body is no longer a part of the living.

Then in the middle of my soul is the great schism. Here in this dark crevasse lie my greatest despairs and heart-aches. All my pain, guilt, doubt, and sadness that I encounter in life’s journey flows down into this lonely place, however as dark and sinister

as this place may be there is light at the end of the tunnel. At the top of my soul rising from the darkness of the crevasse and bursting through the clouds is the sun, thus, hope.

No matter how difficult situations may get in life, there is always hope, and it will get better. This is what the sun represents in my picture.

The sadness in my soul does not end in the dark crevasse but actually extends to the right side of my soul. Here lies my past. The sky is darker on this side and the earth is brown and dead. There are no happy colors or pictures here. All three

pictures coincide with one another. They involve growing up and the harsh reality of life. The graveyard is a representation of the family members who I have lost during my youth as well as the death of my childhood and innocence. The picture of Kellam High School is also a part of this circle of growing old. As much as I despise school it’s the last true piece of my childhood I still have.

The picture of my soul is not very breath taking or artistic but if one took the time to sit down and really think about every color, picture, and shading, they would realize that there is much more going on in my soul than what meets the eye. My soul

tells a story of a boy who loves adventure but whose heart is worn on his sleeve. The issues he encounters takes its toll upon his heart and leaves him with a fissure of pain and despair,

but his strength to over come this despair can be seen as the sun arises from the dark abyss and bursting through the clouds to reveal hope and change.
