The definitive 3 step guide to finding your dream job

Stage 1 - Get Focussed

• Be clear about your motivations for moving

• What does the dream job look like?- Role, location, career progression, package

• Speak to a trusted advisor - Headhunters, more experienced contacts etc

• Commit your time and effort- Like any project, it needs focus and attention

• Update your CV - standard format (max 3 pages)

• Update your LinkedIn profile (and others)- gain some referrals, join a few groups. Be seen!

• Identify, register and meet a selection of headhunters

- Ask their advice, that’s what they get paid for!

• Use Google to find a few relevant job boards- Register for jobs you’d like to have.

• Look directly at the websites of potential employers

• Keep cool, job hunting can take time - a bit like diamond hunting!

• Apply to roles - (tailor your CV for each opportunity)

• Gain some interview practise

• Keep in contact - Keep in regular contact with key people. Update them on your progress

• Network and Socialise - Opportunities can materialise at any moment

• Keep patient and proactive- Dream jobs don’t come around everyday

• Don’t try and be funny in your CV – keep it business professional• Avoid moving just for money reasons • Don’t worry about what your friends say- They probably don’t know what you do

• Don’t lose touch - Your dream job is unlikely to find you
