Mawn is the Welsh word for the first breath of the morning. For most people, that first inhalation is spent in a dream state; time spent in anticipation and lost in imagination. The titular Berlin band Mawn inspires a similar effect by blending downtempo melodies with soulful vocals and bold trip hop beats. Audiences from New York to Berlin have become enthralled by the duo's seductive lyrics and atmospheric tunes on tracks like "Symmetry," "Barren Fruits," and "Suburbio." The combination of Sao Paolo-born vocalist and guitarist Sabine Holler's smokey voice and distorted guitar riffs captures the room, as German instrumentalist Bjorn Eichhorn creates a Portishead-esque vibe on the boards. The act has been carefully crafted and perfected in

the past year alone, as Holler and Eichhorn performed in both Europe and the United States, released their first EP "Um," and began work on their second album. Whatever their future holds, this reviewer will be sure to catch their next hypnotic concert.

The duo met at a course for Music Production & Sound Engineering in Berlin and were immediately united by their shared musical interests.

Hailing from the grungy underground scene of Brazil, Sabine Holler, the duo’s lyricist and songwriter, composes songs woven with unique metaphorical references to science, nature and the human body. Every song takes the shape of a complex emotion and urges the listener to share her experience. Holler’s turbulent past marked by numerous moves from country to country are a stark contrast Björn Eichhorn’s stable German upbringing in the small town of St. Peter Ording.

Eichhorn views each production as it’s own world of sonic possibilities. His great attention to detail along with his modern creativity enhances Mawn’s compositions with crisp electronic indie/pop elements. In January 2015, after playing on the streets of Berlin and ironically getting the attention of a Brazilian television show, Mawn released their debut EP “Um”. Shortly after, they conducted an East-Coast US Tour in the spring and played at a variety of venues in Detroit, Philadelphia and New York City.

Their second and most recent EP, Dois, was released January 2016 and has been well received by a growing fan base.
