Mercedes Benz Bokeh Fashion Film Festival, taking place from 21
and 23 April 2016

OVERVIEW
The Bokeh Fashion Film Festival (21-23Rd April 2016), Africa’s premier Fashion Film Festival this year hosts the 24Slides
Inspiration Platform
And you have been chosen to be on that stage.
Curated by Dr Mark Vella ND, 24Slides is lifestyle design event whose purpose is to inspire people and organisations to
connect and reflect on ideas that will inspire them to live life well. The partnership between Bokeh and 24Slides offers you
amazing opportunity to provoke, inspire and thought-lead over 2000 students, marketers, filmmakers, innovators and
creatives, in areas of lifestyle design, brand storytelling and verbal magic.
Each of you finalists get up to R 6000 of presentation coaching which can be spread over 5 sessions
And one of you will be chosen to be invited back to be a main stage presenter in 2017!
FORMAT
1. 24Slides is an inspirational talk presentation format, using 24Powerpoint slides, that each run for 24seconds on an
automatic timer. Each speaker thus will speak for a total of 576 seconds or 9 minutes 36 seconds. This keeps the
presentation fresh and focused.
2. The 24 slides exclude your title slide and contact details slide which we put in afterwards, as well as add in the timing, i.e.
you will not need to do this.
3. Your talk at 24Slides motivates and inspires others to reflect on their own lives and new possibilities. For many people in
the audience it breaks new ground in their ‘inspiration zone’, opens new thought processes, firing the empathetic and
mirror neurons in the listener’s brain.
4. 24Slides values presentation and presenters with strong concepts and real stories.
5. Don’t be intimidated, you do not need to be an experienced speaker or presenter. We will coach you.
6. We look for passion, integrity and a message that is of genuine value to others
7. The purpose of 24Slides is not to advertise, pitch or sell your business. You are welcome to speak on a subject that you
are an authority on, or passionate about.
8. Your presentation must be your original work
9. We ask that you are open to curation and coaching and available for this in March and April
10. The 5 Finalists will receive coaching to the value of R6250, which is not transferrable
11. The winning finalist will be chosen on the final evening, and will win the chance to present at Bokeh 2017
12. The Judge’s decision at the competition is final
SCHEDULE
24 Slides will have 2 slots of 35 minutes each. Each slot will feature 3 speakers.
Mark Vella speak in the first introductory slot on Day 1 (Friday 22nd April 12-1235pm), followed by two chosen speakers. On
Day 2 (Saturday 23rd April 11-135am), 3 chosen speakers will speak.
I have setup this speaker schedule but please note it is subject to change. Please make sure you are able to speak on the
22nd and 23rd, this was a requirement of entry.

Presentation must be handed to Bokeh by 1 April. From 1st April to 22nd, you will still be able to practice to 22nd.
We will meet in regular weekly coaching slots, or as required. I will try arrange a dress rehearsal slot.

As one of South Africa’s foremost wellness innovators
and public speakers, Mark Vella has established 24Slides

Mark is the author of several wellness programs and qualifications,
including the world’s first internet and call centre protocol database in
Natural Medicine. His books have sold over 150 000 copies
and have been translated into 9 languages.
As a social entrepreneur, he was a 2011 finalist in the
Sanlam Entrepreneur of the Year Competition and made the final rounds
of The Big Break Social Entrepreneurs Competition two years in a row.
In 2012, he was a national adjudicator in the
2012 SEDA Small Business Stars Competition.
TO HELP YOU…
Good presenters have a strong central concept, which they present in such a way as to emotionally involve and impact the
audience. This is what motivates and inspires change in thought and actions.
So it’s not your subject that makes your talk unique, but your concept. For e.g. if your topic is ‘love and relationships’, the
concept could be The 5 Languages of Love, or Men are From Mars, Women are from Venus. Both these bestsellers were
about love and relationships, but presented it in such a way that people in the audience could easily grasp the concept and
makes sense of it into their own lives. In turn that created change and action in the audience.
So that’s where our coaching will start, i.e. your central concept. Please be open to us curating and developing this.
From there we will build the talk as a journey, in building blocks. The visual component is actually one of the last parts to be
built. This is because your slides and visuals speak to your talk, not the other way around.
The great thing about this process is that when you have a talk that has a strong central concept, it can be transferred in to
any medium, for e.g. a book, and it can be repacked to be a seminar, workshop, keynote speech etc. In other words, this
presentation can underpin your purpose in this world, not just a one off thing you do.
A suggestion is to look at the Bokeh Facebook page and website, as well as presentation visions on TED and Vimeo. I will
also send a link to Simon Sinek’s video on the Golden Circle. This gets you to think about what your ‘why’ is in this world.
