How to use the verb glance card Taobh 1 (side 1) Red = Past tense (Inné means yesterday) Yellow = Present tense (Gach lá means each day) Blue = Future tense (Amárach means tomorrow) Symbols around the edge show pronouns (1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd singular and then plural) in each tense, using the 3 colours where needed. Letters in brackets are for the “caol le caol” rule The white columns show the imperative (Ordú), then verbal noun (Ainm briathartha) and then the verbal adjective (Aidiacht bhriathartha) Verbs above the centre bar are type 1 or first conjugation, those below are the 11 irregulars. (note - bí has two entries in the yellow column and none in the last, why do you think this is ?) Centre bar shows the verbal particles for negatives and questions. Irregular usage of these or a change to the verb stem is marked with an asterisk and is shown in colour at bottom. Taobh 2 (side 2) These are all type 2 verbs or second conjugation. Colours, columns, symbols and bar all have the same meaning as on side 1. Some verbs have underlined letters in first column, denoting snycopation or removal of short vowels in a final syllable before adding the verb ending. Top of page shows how a preposition (ar) combines with a pronoun (mé) to make a prepositional pronoun (orm). The possessive pronouns are listed down the RHS of the boxes. Larger box at bottom contains some standard question forms as well as more examples of the irregular verb bí, from side 1, using the 3 colours. Can you see why there are two shades of yellow used ? Now test your understanding and use the card to say “put a cork in it !”

Taobh 1 (side 1)

Red = Past tense (Inné means yesterday)Yellow = Present tense (Gach lá means each day)Blue = Future tense (Amárach means tomorrow)
