Verbs consist of REGULAR and IRREGULAR forms.

Irregular verbs are an important feature of English. We use irregular verbs a lot when speaking, less when writing. Of course, the most

famous English verb of all, the verb "to be", is irregular.

What is the difference between regular verbs and irregular verbs?

Verbos consistem em formas REGULARES e IRREGULARES.

Verbos irregulares são uma característica importante do Inglês. Nós usamos verbos irregulares muito ao falar, menos quando se escreve. Claro, o mais famoso verbo Inglês de tudo, o verbo 'ser', é irregular.

Qual é a diferença entre os verbos regulares e verbos irregulares?

Base Form Past Simple Past Participle

With regular verbs, the rule is simple...

The past simple and past participle always end in -ed:

finish finished finished

stop stopped stopped

work worked worked

But with irregular verbs, there is no rule...

Sometimes the verb changes completely: sing sang sung

Sometimes there is a partial change: buy bought bought

Sometimes there is no change: cut cut cut

A VERB is an action word. A verb tells what the subject does, is, or what happens to it. (If you ask, “What is subject doing?” The answer is a verb.)

Um verbo é uma palavra de ação. Um verbo diz o que o sujeito faz, é, ou o que acontece com ele. (Se você perguntar: 'O que é o sujeito está

fazendo?' A resposta é um verbo.)

Example 1"Kayla smiled at the teacher."

smiled - tells what the subject (Kayla) did

Example 2"Sam listens to the teacher."

listens - tells what subject (Sam) is doing.

Example 3"Maria was lost in the woods."

was lost - tells what happens to subject (Maria).

FUNCTIONS OF THE SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

1] To talk about general truths, that is, to talk about something that was true in the past, is true now, and will be true in the future (e.g., The sun rises in the East. Nurses work hard. Water boils at 100 °C.)

2] To talk about habits or rituals (e.g., I pay income tax every year. She drinks coffee. We watch T.V. all the time. The Brazilian football team never loses to England. It never rains in California.)

NOTE The use of a HELPING VERB – “TO DO”

FUNÇÕES DOS SIMPLES PRESENTE INDICATIVO

1] falar sobre verdades gerais, ou seja, para falar sobre algo que era verdade no passado, é verdade agora e será verdadeiro no futuro (por exemplo, o sol nasce no leste. As enfermeiras trabalham duro. Água ferve a 100 ° C.)

2] falar sobre hábitos ou rituais (por exemplo, eu pago imposto de renda todos os anos. Ela bebe café. Assistimos TV o tempo todo. O time de futebol brasileiro nunca perde a Inglaterra. Nunca chove em Califórnia.)

NOTA: O USO DE UM VERBO DE AJUDA – "TO DO" ["PARA FAZER"]

REGULAR VERBS are conjugated by adding “ED” to the end of the word, so “TALK” becomes “TALKED”, for instance.

Where a REGULAR VERB already ends in “E”, ADD “D” to the end, SO “CONJUGATE” becomes “CONJUGATED”.

VERBOS REGULARES SÃO conjugados por acrescentando "ED" para o final da palavra, para que "FALAR" se torna "FALOU", por exemplo. Onde um VERBO REGULAR já termina em "E", adicione "D" ATÉ O FIM, então "CONJUGATE" se torna "CONJUGATED".
