The Use of Social Media in Project Management

Frank Sorokach
It's all good. No worries.
Leslie Wolfe
WAIT... I'm a jerk. I didn't see that this was completely revised... Frank, you're a machine!
Leslie Wolfe
Now that I read it again, I thought section #3 was how Frank used it in his class, but we also need to talk about how it was used in curriculum development.
Leslie Wolfe
Agree regarding Parts #1 and #2. I think I can work Part #1, but we can decide that for sure tomorrow. I don't have much bandwidth to work this until tomorrow afternoon.I think the idea for part #3 is only partly on topic. I think that we also need to show how social media was used in curriculum development to match up with the abstract. This is just a suggestion to use as talking points for tomorrow's meeting, but perhaps:Part #1 - Leslie (from a PM perspective)Part #2 - Frank (from a types/availability perspective)Part #3 - Ronnie (+ Frank) perhaps Ronnie can fill in examples of how it was used for curriculum development in the BSB and then Frank can give the example of the execution in MIS 204Feel free to shoot this down. Frank, I feel like you're carrying a lot of the load right now and I have equity concerns. =) Want to make sure I'm doing my share. My schedule frees up considerably after today.AGENDA for tomorrow's meeting:1. Discuss timing/flow of presentation (since we only have 1 hour)2. Discuss/finalize distribution of the work3. Set deadlines, schedule review meetings (we're probably going to have to have some over the weekend or maybe another Friday afternoon I'm guessing)
Frank Sorokach
Based on your thoughts, we should add a few slides before slide 2 (defining social media) to address point #1 and create the introduction, which would be why we want to use social media in PM.Everything in the presentation so far really addresses point #2. Point #2A is showing that you really cannot define social media as just Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. While it looks like a lot, making the point about how nebulous social media is will only eat up five minutes or so. Point #2B is slides 34 to 46, which are actually explaining the platforms. Point #2 requires the most attention, as people will likely not be familiar with the tools. Then we need to show how we used these tools in MIS 204 and other places. That will be point #3. I will start developing slides to address that.
Leslie Wolfe
^^ is the abstract. I think we need to get this presentation more in line with the abstract. I think it will be fun to start off with Frank's Social Media test, but we need to get on target with the abstract pretty quickly. Based on the abstract, we have three sections:1. Why social media in PM?2. Examples of platforms3. Example of how it worked I think I can help the most on #1, but #2 and #3 are all you guys (#3 is how Frank used it in his class really). So, perhaps on Thursday we can discuss the workload in that sense.
Ronnie Godshalk
We will discuss why project managers in higher education should use social media platforms to manage projects. Second, we will discuss and show examples of the use of social media platforms for teaching and learning in a project management class, and for use of social media in other classroom settings. Finally, we will offer an example of how social media platforms are used to manage the (BSBIC) Courses are constantly being revised and developed, and faculty and instructional design teams operating from 17+ campuses use social media to advance projects. We will offer opportunities and potential pitfalls associated with the use of social media platforms, gathering data from the literature and "real world," to provide context for higher education settings. Presentation will conclude with a Q&A session with the audience.

Defining Social Media

Wikipedia Definition: “A group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content.”

Based on this definition Google Docs would be considered social media.

Defining Social Media

Webopedia Definition: “… describe any Web site that enables users to create public profiles within that Web site and form relationships with other users of the same Web site who access their profile.”
