Georgia War COVID—19 Update We are now in the 6th month of our efforts to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in
our facility and our goal today remains the same: continue to do all that we can to
ensure the safety of all residents and staff. We understand the current restrictions in
place have been taxing and burdensome, and we could not have gotten this far without
your commitment and cooperation. As we navigate through this ever-changing
environment at home, work, and in our communities, we know that none of the freedoms
we have today would be possible without the valor and courage of those who chose to
defend this great nation. These are the veteran residents that reside in our facility and
our communities today.
Thank you to all of our residents, staff, and families for your continued efforts and
flexibility in this ever changing environment. It’s certainly not an ideal situation, and
we are doing all that we can to ensure the health and safety of everyone under the
Georgia War umbrella. Essential to our mission, I am proud to say that all of our
departments have stepped up in one way or another to ensure that medical care,
therapies, and ancillary support services continue. Volunteering to help in ways we
never imagined, staff have stepped up regardless of role or job title, remaining steadfast
which confirms a true commitment to our mission, and ensures that we continue in a
way that represents business as usual even though we know it is not. Everyone should
be commended for their commitment to this organization.
As you have experienced first-hand, this pandemic has led to new medical challenges,
policies, and procedures, and we continue to remain vigilant in an effort to maintain a
safe and healthy environment. Please know that our leadership team continues working
with federal, state, and local government agencies in support of our mission. We have also
experienced an amazing outpouring of support from individuals and community partners.
On the next page, there is a full list of those who have provided Georgia war with PPE,
refreshments, and other support during this time. These groups remain committed and will
continue to support Georgia War through this pandemic. We are very fortunate and
thankful for their partnership.
Restrictions in Georgia were scaled back and we want you to be aware that Georgia War
restrictions are anticipated to extend at least through August. Please be assured that
our approach to reopening will be deliberate and systematic. We hope that you and your
family will remain safe at home and in your community as we continue to fight this
pandemic. Any questions or concerns can be directed to Administration. Thank you for
your continued support of our efforts in caring for the veterans of Georgia War Veterans
Nursing Home.

Chaplain’s Corner
Greetings and salutations!
These last few months have been very challenging for all of us. I applaud each of
you for your diligence and your perseverance during this trying time. This
invisible enemy has not only shaken the Georgia War community, but our nation
to its core. Many lives have been claimed, and our fight for our health is still at
stake. Do your best to stay focused and encourage others to do the same. I am
reminded of this as I read Galatians 6:9, “Let us not be weary in well doing: for in
due season we shall reap if we faint not.” I encourage each of you to not let your
guard down; we are still in this fight together! Please take the opportunity to read
this poem in its entirety; I hope it provides encouragement for you.
Don't Quit
by John Greenleaf Whittier
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is strange with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns
And many a failure comes about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow—
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out—
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit—
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.
I’ll close with a blessing for each of you. May you all find peaceful moments and
comforting thoughts. May God keep you safe from day to day, as you travel along
life’s way!

Remember Me by David Harkins
Do not shed tears when I have gone but smile instead
because I have lived.
Do not shut your eyes and pray to God that I'll come back
but open your eyes and see all that I have left behind.
I know your heart will be empty because you cannot see me
but still I want you to be full of the love we shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live only for
yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of
what happened between us yesterday.
You can remember me and grieve that I have gone or you
can cherish my memory and let it live on.
You can cry and lose yourself, become distraught and turn
your back on the world or you can do what I want - smile,
wipe away the tears, learn to love again and go on.
