The mission of the Minnesota Veterans Homes is “serving those who have served” by providing quality health care in an environment of trust, dignity and sharing.

It’s a legacy that began in the late 1800s when, what was then called the Old Soldiers Home, was built for indigent Veterans of the Civil War. In the 1960s, health care became a primary focus of our organization. Over the years, a variety of specialized services were added to meet the total needs of our Residents. There are now five State Veterans Homes around the state designed to ensure that our nation’s heroes and their spouses can live in a caring community that enriches their lives.

Our Veterans Homes provide person-centered care according to the individual needs of each Resident. We operate 24/7 facilities that provide a combination of skilled nursing care with special care units focused on dementia, Alzheimer’s, domiciliary care, rehabilitation services, recreational therapy, and work therapy.

Admission Requirements – Our Residents must be:

• Honorably discharged Veterans who entered service from Minnesota, or are current Residents, who served 181 consecutive days on active duty, or injured in the line of duty.

• The spouse of an eligible Veteran who is at least 55 years old and meets residency requirements.
