The Veterinary Technology Program at Jefferson State is a distance education program for students interested in a career in Veterinary Nursing. The theory classes are taught on line, and the clinical applications are conducted in approved veterinary hospitals and/or facilities, within the state of Alabama, in which the student will gain clinical nursing skills.
This program provides education and specialized training in veterinary nursing; it is not a “stepping stone” for those who aspire to become veterinarians. We are looking for interested, hardworking and enthusiastic men and women, who wish to work under the direction of a licensed veterinarian, to enroll in this program. The program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technicians Education and Activities (AVMA/CVTEA).
Upon successful completion of the prescribed course of study, students are awarded the Associate Degree in Applied Science (A.A.S.). The graduate will then take the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) and State boards to become a Licensed Veterinary
