Editors ColumnThanks for subscribing to the Vets and Pets Handbook (West Midlands Edition) I hope you will find it an enjoyable and informative read. Pets have always been a big part of my family life, and here at the Vets and Pets Group, we are very passionate about championing the rights of pets as I’m sure you are. Inside this handbook we celebrate the good work of the Birmingham City Council Animal Welfare Department, who deal with over 2,000 stray dogs each year. The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons explains why the Practice Standards Scheme is so important and celebrity TV vet Joe Inglis of the Pet Vaccination Group sheds light on why vaccinations are so important for out pets. The handbook also has a dedicated section promoting leading veterinary groups and pet services across the West Midlands region. Should you require further information about any of the featured pet services feel free to contact our helpline on 0203 286 5451. Happy reading. Andrew Clayton –Editor

Our pets are priceless and deserve the best nutrition and care, after all our pets are valued family members. With this in mind the Vets and Pets Group have launched an exclusive Privilege card which gives pet owners access to highly recommended pet services within their local area, whether it be a Canine Hydrotherapist, a boarding Kennels or Cattery or any other pet service. The Privilege Card is promoted locally through the Vets and Pets Handbook, our highly targeted Google AdWord campaign, Facebook fan page and through various marketing initiatives and networking events held UK wide. The ethos behind the Privilege Card is to connect concerned pet owners with the very best pet services and to reassure pet owners of the standard of care they can expect to receive. Pet owners can either contact our helpline or refer to their regional Vets and Pets handbook for further information. Subscribers also receive special promotions, regular e-mail newsletters and invites to member only events.

A number of our pet services and leading veterinary groups operate a loyalty scheme backed by the privilege card which ensures repeat customers and direct referrals through our call centre. Pet owners can even save money on pet medical bills, pet products and supplies. We are offering select veterinary groups and professional pet services a unique opportunity to join our panel of recommended pet services for the United Kingdom. By subscribing to the Privilege Card, Veterinary practices and pet services have been gaining new customers and repeat customers UK Wide. Current subscribers exceed 21,000 across the United Kingdom. Personal Caring Service We believe that the relationship you and your pet develop with your vet should be a very special one and are committed to making this happen

Wouldn’t you like your vet to be someone who not only cares for their patients as if they were their own, but also practises to a very high clinical standard AND makes you feel extra special? That’s what the Medivet Partnership is all about!

We know that you have probably thought long and hard about taking your pet to the vet. Our consultations are therefore deliberately 50% longer than what is usually offered by most practices in the UK. You have taken the time and trouble to see us, wherever possible we want to make sure that you receive as much time as is needed for us to not only reassure you, but also to identify what needs to be done to help your pet.

Our aim is to offer the highest standards of clinical care possible for a first opinion practice. Being a part of a larger network of clinics also ensures that we can offer you a wider range of services than was previously available at the more traditional “stand alone” veterinary surgery. Belonging to a large network of practices helps us offer continuity of care through our 24 hour Continuous Care Centres where there’s always a vet and nurse in attendance around the clock, 365 days a year!

Our large fleet of ambulances will take patients requiring intensive care or regular monitoring to a 24 hour Continuous Care Centre rather than leaving them alone and unattended overnight. Our pool of over 170 vets and well developed intranet, linking all our branches, gives everyone in the network almost immediate access to clinicians who have developed special skills and knowledge over and above what is traditionally found in a general practitioner!

Being larger allows us the opportunity

to appoint a full time trainer to visit each and every branch to deliver training and support to all of our staff in customer care and service. It has taken us nearly two years to roll out our Client Service Charter Training Programme to almost all our branches but the end is in sight! Our Client Service Charter is proudly displayed in each branch where this training has been given. We also offer further training in communication skills to each and every person who joins our team.

Our newly introduced Patient Charter is now also being rolled out across all our practices. This aims to remind everyone who works for us that we strongly believe in treating our patients just as we would our own pets.

Here at the Vets and Pets group we like to promote the

very best pet services and leading veterinary groups across

different regions and we love to hear our reader’s thoughts

on the pet services and veterinary practices they use.

The West Midlands business section and the various pet

services listed are a result of the feedback we have received

from our subscriber’s experiences. If you wish to recommend

any pet service that you currently use, feel free to contact

our call centre on 0203 286 0453 or email

In the business section the spotlight falls on one of

the leading vets in the West Midlands, the St George’s

Veterinary Group which is a premier practice at the centre

of Wolverhampton’s veterinary profession. St. George’s

Veterinary Group offers quality treatment for both pets

and horses. Celebrity TV Veterinary surgeon Joe Inglis,

whilst on duty at the Pet Vaccination Clinic Group discusses

vaccinations and why they are so important for our pets.

Also included are recommended catteries, kennels, canine

hydrotherapist and other valued pet services.

There are lots of ways for our readers and Privilege Card

subscribers to get involved in the next edition of the Vets

and Pets Handbook not only through competitions but also

through member only events and by liking our Facebook fan

page. The press team are currently producing the national

Vets and Pets handbook which is being e-mailed out

to every subscriber UK wide, which will once again raise

awareness of leading animal welfare charities, pet services

and accredited Veterinary Groups. I hope you have enjoyed

the West Midlands Vets and Pets Handbook.
