Viacom mainly owns television based media products. Viacom’s most famous and widely known products within the television industry are: Comedy Central, MTV, nickjr, nicktoons, nickolodeon, teennick and VH1. They also own film production companies that also have a vast and expansive portfolios to their names. One notable company being Paramount Pictures.

Viacom not only owns an expansive array of televised media, but they also own a vast amount of film production companies such as the Paramount Pictures Corporation. They also own Paramount Animation, Paramount Home Media Distribution, Insurge Pictures and Epix. Paramount Pictures is one of the oldest movie production companies in Hollywood.

Viacom, however, is mainly known for its televised media platforms, it contains quite an extensive portfolio of various television brands which are recognised around the world.

The company also owns two music recording labels in their list of various media assets. First of the two being Comedy Central Records, the second being Nick Records.

Viacom is worth 11.5 billion US dollars. From research found online, I found that Viacom’s annual turnover for the

year 2014 13.78 billion dollars. This figure was spanning from October 2013 to September 2014.

Viacom operates in 160 countries across the world. The company is split into different divisions depending on where they are

operating. Viacom’s European division are split into three different sectors. The first division: Viacom International Media Networks UK, Ireland and

Australia, serving: UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Hungary and Central & Eastern Europe.

The second division: Viacom International Media Networks Northern Europe, they operate in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, the Netherlands, Flanders and Poland.

The third division: Viacom International Media Networks Southern Europe, Africa and Middle East operates in: France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Turkey.

Viacom’s parent company is National Amusements. National Amusements’ CEO is Sumner Redstone. National Amusements owns 80% of Viacom. Voting control for Viacom is held by National Amusements. Redstone also owns a controlling stake in another company owned by

Viacom, the CBS Corporation. Sumner Redstone is the Executive Chairman of Viacom.

Viacom’s stock market statistics for their enterprise value are 40.92 billion US dollars as of February 27th 2015.

Their profit margin as of February 27th 2015 is 16.83%. Their revenue so far for 2015 is 13.93 billion US dollars. Viacom’s amount of outstanding shares so far for 2015 amounts to 405.75 million US

dollars. Their total debt figure so far for 2015 is 13.76 billion US dollars. The company’s total profit in 2013 was 2.395 billion US dollars. Their total revenue in 2013 was 13.794 billion US dollars.

The original Viacom was founded on May 3rd, 1971. It was owned by Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) from 1971 to 1973, then it was an independent company from 1073 to 1986. From 1986 right up until its demise in 2005 it was owned by National Amusements.

Viacom as we now know it was founded on January 3rd, 2006. They acquired 66% of MTV Networks in 1985. A year later they bought the remaining parts of MTV Networks that they

didn’t own for 185,000 dollars. In 1994 they completed a 9.9 billion merge with Paramount

Communications Corporation. The year 2000 saw Viacom complete a 39.8 billion dollar merge with the

CBS Corporation.

Viacom filed a huge lawsuit against Google on March 13th 2007. The total amount they sued Google for was 1 billion US dollars. During this event, Viacom illegally used a video from Google’s company,

YouTube. Viacom took a video from a user on YouTube named Christopher Knight

without his permission in an advertising campaign. Christopher Knight was then charged with copyright infringement after he

had used material from Viacom in one of his videos which explained what Viacom had done with his video material.

The original Viacom (Pre re-launch in 2006) purchased the remaining 50% interest in Comedy Central which they didn’t own for 1.2 billion dollars.

In 2007, Viacom took on a joint venture the Indian media company, TV-18. 2008 saw a joint venture between Paramount Pictures and Viacom in order

to create their new company, EPIX, together with MGM and Lionsgate. Paramount Pictures, owned by Viacom, took over film production company,

DreamWorks LLC in 2006. Another Viacom owned company, MTV, formed a partnership with the

Warner Music Group (WMG) in 2010. On May 1st 2014 Viacom had completed an agreement to take over British

broadcaster Channel 5 from Northern and Shell.

On the 25th February 2015, Viacom branded a new partnership marketing service under a new name. Nickelodeon Inside Out Solutions.

On the same date, Viacom launched a New Mobile Subscription Service for Pre-schoolers called Noggin.

Nickelodeon has been continuing to trial new format innovations by way of introducing a new daily scripted series with the go ahead for three new television shows.

The 9th of February 2015 saw Viacom name Tom Gorke Executive Vice President of Sales and Business Developments, Content Distribution for Viacom Media Networks, this is a new job position that has only recently been created.

29th January saw Viacom report higher revenue and record earnings per share for their December quarter.

Viacom is planning to launch a new form of media for children. It’s a video subscription service which is set to be launched in March. The product is called Noggin, it’s actually a re-launch of the product which

was used in the past. It used to be a cable network which stopped running in 2009. They are also questioning who will run the company after Sumner

Redstone passes away, as they are worrying about his age and his health.

Viacom owns various different media networks that have nearly 700 million subscribers worldwide.

They are one of the largest media companies in the world. Their number of employees in 2011 was a team of 10,580 people. In 2003, the original Viacom recorded sales of 26.2 billion dollars. They are public company. Viacom has television networks and film companies that work across the

globe. The company operates around 170 different networks. Viacom’s headquarters are in Manhattan, New York City, United States. Their range of products are: Television, broadcasting, radio, publishing,

film and web portals. Viacom is actually an abbreviation for Video and Audio Communications . The predecessor to the original Viacom was Gulf+Western.
