The concert will be held at Pennington United Methodist Church, and all proceeds will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. This cultural event was inspired by Renfro's recent experiences living in Florence, Italy where she performed in last season's prestigious Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. "Everyone says that Italy is beautiful, but I wasn't prepared for how completely I would fall in love with that country, while at the same time being homesick for America". Saponara, an Italian-American, heard and played Italian music from a very young age, and was excited to bring that music into recital form. These classically trained musicians have performed extensively in Europe and the United States, and have created a program of songs that expresses their passion for both Italy and America. Pennington United Methodist Church has been a long-time supporter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). This organization raises awareness, funds scientific research, and provides resources and aid to those affected by suicide. The church is located at 60 South Main Street in Pennington, NJ. On March 6 at 4pm at Pennington United Methodist Church, mezzo-soprano Jessica Renfro and pianist Lynda Saponara will present a recital of Italian and American songs to benefit the American Society for Suicide Prevention. The program ranges from jazz standards, African-American Spirituals, and songs from Italian cinema to virtuosic Rossini, Bellini, and Gluck. This will be a multi-media event with narration and projections.
