Called by God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and blessed with warm, committed people, we recognize and accept our responsibility for building up the body of Christ, so we:
Gather as loving disciples of Jesus in strong liturgical
life,
Are a hospitable parish where all are made to feel
welcome.
Foster vibrant family life.
Nourish the individual and communal dimensions of our
Catholic faith in all our members.
Share the gifts we have received from the Holy Spirit in

Therefore, offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to His service and pleasing to Him. (Romans 12:1)

The Foundation of Our Nation
For many Americans, the ability to gather, worship and pray are critical among the blessings offered by our free society. We recognize that this country was founded upon a bedrock of faith, and we understand the critical role that Divine Providence has played in our nation’s history – from the time our forebears first set foot on these shores to the present day. All of the achievements that define the American dream, from gleaming cities and busy byways to our equitable legal system and stable government, are a reflection of the faith-based ideals and spiritual convictions of the people. In the words of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, “Without God, there could be no American form of government nor any American way of life.”
From its earliest colonial days right on through to the 21st century, America has always been a nation steeped in faith - spiritual roots that must be embraced, celebrated and cherished. Her citizens, leaders and institutions have consistently acknowledged that freedom and democracy are blessings passed down directly from the hand of Providence. This reliance on Almighty God has sustained us in periods of turmoil and given us comfort during times of uncertainty. Collectively, we know that we have not been left to our own devices. We find peace and encouragement in the assurance that our destiny as a nation lies in the hands of the Creator of the universe, and that we can call upon His name, through His son Jesus Christ. John Bornschein, Vice Chairman of the National Day of
Prayer Task Force)

THE GIFT OF HOURS:
DISCIPLES AS STEWARDS
Our Gift of Hours program asks you to consider the difference that the gift of one
hour of your weekly income would be for our parish programs.
Without spending a dime......you can
give a lasting gift to our parish. Life insurance no longer needed or a simple line in your will can benefit our parish endowments, and provide financial support year after year. It's a wonderful way to pass on your faith and love for your parish. It's simple and easy to accomplish. Contact Donna Binney, Business Manager, Father Mike or Mary Ann Gehle at [email protected] or 301-676-0436 Thank you for your consideration and generosity!
PARISH FAMILY BUDGET REPORT COLLECTION FOR WEEK ENDED April 1, 2016
I am pleased to share that St. Michaels has raised $81.556 toward our 2016 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal goal of
$84,500 - 97% there! Thank you to all who have
helped make our Appeal a success to date. If you have yet to give, we need your help! Please give today to help us reach our goal. Gifts can be made online at www.archbalt.org/appeal. On behalf of Archbishop Lori and all who will benefit from your generosity, thank you for your support.
A word about Online Giving: Everyone looks for ways
to simplify life and electronic Online Giving is a way to consider. No more hassles about envelopes, checks, or cash as you go off to Mass. You decide what you want to give weekly or monthly, and you may change the amount depending on your circumstances. This is a win-win situation for you and the church. We know what is coming in no matter what the weather or vacations are and anyone running a household knows how comforting that is. You can sign up for o Online Giving at our website or contact Donna Binney (240) 437-3661 for assistance.
ST. MICHAELS IS GOING PAPERLESS...In an effort to stay Eco-friendly and save money, St. Michaels is going paperless for Special Holiday letters, Mass Schedules and more. You can access all important information through: taking home our Bulletin after Mass, like us on Facebook, visit our Website at www.stmichaelpoplarsprings.org, and through our email communications sent directly to you. If you do not have access to any of these forms of communications and wish to receive information by “snail mail” please call the Parish Offices at 240.437.3660 or send an email to [email protected] and request to be placed on our Snail Mail List.
Our next goal is to transform our 600+ mailers for the St. Michael Messenger Newsletter to email and web publication by November!

Prayer Intention of the Holy Father April 2016
Universal: That small farmers may receive a just reward for their precious labor. Evangelization: African Christians. That Christians in Africa may give witness to love and faith in Jesus Christ amid political-religious conflicts.
WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER: Think of how tired, discouraged and frustrated the apostles must have been in the Gospel reading today. Then Jesus shows up and tells them to try one more time. Because they were willing and obedient, Jesus blessed them abundantly. It works the same way in our own lives today; if we trust in Jesus and do what He tells us to do we will receive His abundant blessings! Allow the grace of God to strengthen, renew and rekindle your marriage relationship. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend is November 11-13, 2016, in Gaithersburg, MD. For more information and to apply online-visit welovematrimony.org, or call 301-541-7007, or email [email protected].
