VibroSmart® – new VSV30x firmwareSummary of new features and benefits
VSV30x monitoring module firmware version 18 (PNR 642-001-000-018) brings some notable new features and benefits:
1. Module lock mode via spare DSI (multi-purpose): The VSV30x module can now be locked (prevent unauthorized configuration change) by connecting to ground the spare multi-purpose DSI (Discrete Input).
2. PTP time synchronization: for improved accuracy with up to sub-millisecond waveform synchronization between modules and improved VibroSight display of waveforms time.
3. Channel bypass: It is now possible to easily bypass a sensor connected to a VSV30x module via the VibroSight Scope client. By bypassing a sensor, all associated sensor OK status, alarm, danger and flags are ignored. The measured value is still being displayed to help for troubleshooting.
4. Support for pre-logging / pre-trigger : The VSV30x module supports now pre-trigger data logging in the Alarm Event based data logging rule (acquisition at higher rate).

o Narrow band vibration for AC coupled input channels: NB vibration processing is now allowed for AC coupled dynamic input channels. In previous VibroSight versions AC+DC coupling was enforced by a configuration consistency check. As a resultof this change it is now possible to perform both a narrow band vibration processing and an asynchronous absolute bearing vibration processing using the same input channel with bearing absolute sensor (accelerometers and velocity sensors). Note that the flexible input channel to processing block mapping has been introduced with previous version -017 of VSV30x firmware.
o Direct waveform modification for Hydro applications: this is to correct intermittent mis-detection of generator pole with air-gap measurement. The module can now provide all tacho time stamps to VibroSight so for example all one-per-rev pulse for phase reference associated time stamp. The display is not yet available but will be with VibroSight 5.1.

In order to add a layer of cyber security to the VibroSmart system, VSV30x module can now be locked by connecting to GND the spare multi-purpose DSI (Discrete Input). The multi-pupose DSI is located on J1 pin 9.
When the module is locked the following actions are not allowed:
Configuration change
Firmware change
Change of time synchronization settings
Change of network settings
Trip multiply using VibroSight Scope
Alarm or channel bypass using VibroSight Scope

VibroSmart® –new VSV30x firmwareNew feature PTP time synchronization
Both NTP (Network Time Protocol) and PTP (Precision Time Protocol) time servers use network time protocols to serve time to other devices on the network and achieve time synchronization between devices.
Firmware release prior 642-001-000-018 only provided NTP synchronization between the VibroSmart devices and other systems. The PTP synchronisation was only performed within a VibroSmart measurement block and for data exchange between modules. With FW -018 it is now possible to synchronize the VSV30X modules time to either a NTP or a PTP server for the timestamping of measurements provided to VibroSight.
With NTP synchronisation, the VSV30x modules were able to achieve time synchronisation between 2 – 10ms and in some cases up to 50ms.
With PTP, the VSV30x can synchronise waveform measurement to sub-millisecond in order to correlate events in VIbroSight from VibroSmart system with other systems such as disjonctors or electrical events and allow accurate analysis (accurate sequencing of events by comparing waveforms). Also VibroSight waveform plot display related to time axis and the option “Elapsed time” or “Time” have been improved to allow accurate time synchronization when comparing waveforms from different VibroSmart measurement channels.

In VibroSight configurator, there is the option to choose the delaymechanism for the PTP synchronisation:

P2P = Peer-to-peer
Which one to choose? …of course, it depends. The short answer is thatthe P2P peer-to-peer delay measurement mechanism is best in anengineered network, where all switches (and routers if there are any)can be guaranteed to be 1588 capable, i.e. they are eithertransparent clocks or boundary clocks. If there are going to be anynon-1588 aware switches, or if there is any doubt about this, then youwant the E2E end-to-end delay measurement mechanism.

VibroSmart® –new VSV30x firmwareNew feature Channel bypass
Customer feedbacks were the trigger of this new feature. Prior FW -018, it was only possible to perform an “Alarm Bypass”of an entire VSV30x module by using VibroSight Scope or the “AB” DSI. There was no simple and efficient way to bypassone single channel. If the input channel or the processing block was set as “disabled” for example, many consistencychecks of the configuration were blocking the activation to the modules (i.e : Logic error, Modbus register error, DCoutput error, Dual channel error etc). With the new “Channel bypass” feature, it only takes few clicks to completelyignore a channel.
When “Channel bypass” is active:
The sensor OK associated with the input is forced to OK state
All flags as well from processing and alarms are forced to OK
The sensor power supply remains ON or as it is configured
A flag is indicating that the channel is bypassed, this flag is available for mapping to Fieldbus via the VSI010 module
When a speed is bypassed, if it is shared with another module, then the information is propagated and the processing using this speed will be bypassed as well
The calculated value is still displayed which is very useful for troubleshooting purposes

To activate a channel bypass, use VibroSight Scope, (directconnect to device, not via a server) select the module and thenclick on the DSI command needed.
Note: on the screenshot, the DSI commands are labeled wronlgy as « Alarm bypassChX ». This will be changed to « Channel bypass ChX » in the next VS release 5.1.

The pre-trigger maximumsize is 50 seconds of trend data, waveforms, spectra and orbits with a resolution in time of every 100ms. The 50 seconds maximumbuffer size with a 100ms data resolution in time is fixed and not configurable.

VibroSmart® – VibroSight® compatibility
VSV30x monitoring module firmware version 18 (PNR642-001-000-018) is not compatible with earlier versions ofVibroSight:
VibroSight® software 5.0 fully support this firmware release
A VibroSight® software upgrade to version 5.0 is required in order to take advantage of the new features and
benefits in this latest VSV30x module firmware.
Configurations need to be updated and activated using VibroSight® software version 5.0.
Existing configurations are automatically converted by VibroSight, with no specific actions required from user.
Note: However, configurations cannot be converted back for compatibility with earlier versions of VSV30x
module firmware, so back up your configurations before updating.
Similarily, VibroSight® Vision corresponding to VibroSight® software version 5.0 or later is required to read
data/measurements from VSV30x modules running this latest version of firmware.

VibroSmart® –new VSV30x firmware Improvements and bug fixes NB vibration for AC coupled input channels
The AC+DC coupling restriction for the Narrow Band processing has been removed. This change now allow to usethe same input channel to perform either NB, AAB or BBP processing (everything can be set as AC coupling).
Before this change, the NB processing needed its input channel to be configured as AC+DC couling (all the signal without analog filtering). The reason was that the analog HP filter (configurable 0.1, 1 or 3 Hz) introduces a slight phase distortion for low frequencies. But for most applications, this is not important.

This improvement is preventing an intermittent mis-detection of poles when performing AirGapmeasurement. The issue was due to approximatedspeed information transmitted to the VibroSight serverand errors were accumulating. The fix is allowing all timestamps and indexes of the tacho to be transmitted toVibroSight.
The new FW 018 already contains the improvement butthe full integration with VibroSight will be effective withthe next 5.1 release. The tacho markers are alreadydisplayed but they are calculated from the waveformassociated speed value. The real tacho markers comingfrom the card will be available on the waveform plot.
