June Resident of the Month: Margaret Litzner
Margaret grew up on a farm near St. Hilaire, MN. She married Len in 1953 in Minneapolis. He then was call up for service and spent two years in Korea and Guam. Margaret has four children, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Margaret and her husband had lived in Minneapolis most of their life because while Len was alive, he worked in that area for an Audio-Visual Company. They also spent time living in Michigan, Florida and they retired in Wisconsin.
Margaret had studied in school to be a Parish worker, but due to family she wasn’t able to pursue that until her children were later grown. She worked several years as director of Shared Ministry in a church in Eagan.
While she and Len were in Michigan, they were managing a Zoo Garden that was built by Len’s uncle. Many acres of paths through the forest with life sized Dinosaurs along the way.
When Margaret isn’t spending time with her family and friends, she has loved traveling, hiking, dabbled in oil painting and still loves to read.

A NOTE FROM ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
Please remember that plastic bags are not recyclable, the food containers are recyclable if there is no food in them and not stained with grease. When in doubt throw it out!
Also please break down all boxes before you put them in the recycling container.
We will be getting our window washed this year but for now it has been postponed until further notice.
We will also be having a fire drill on Thursday, June 18th, 2020 at 6:30pm. Remember to stay in your apartment during this time. If this was a real fire you would be safe in your apartment since all the doors are fire doors.

Don’t forget that every weekday at 10:30am we will be having our daily trivia question!
Watch tv channel 1-1 for the daily question and be the first to call in your answer! #651-653-3288
We are going to be continuing to provide facetime, zoom, or good duo for you to keep
connected with your loved ones. If this is something that you like to do, please let Kerri or Amanda know.
We will continue to pass out packets during the week of different word games. If there is a specific thing that you would like to see in these packets, please let us
know. Also, we will continue to pass out the weekend devotional sheet with the list of different church services.
I am looking forward to when we can put this all behind us and throw a big party with
all of us families and friends!

UPDATES FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
I hope that this message finds you all well. We have missed seeing all of you out and about in community as much as you all want to be out. If you leave your apartment, we are asking that masks be worn now and for a long time I would imagine. Also, with all that is going on between COVID and the civil unrest, I just want to remind you all that your safety is top of mind. We are truly in a new day. I have spoken to several you through this process and I will be available for questions as always. Please be kind to one another.

DIMENSIONS CORNER
Summer is almost here, and we can feel it in the air. Our patio has been used a few times, but I am looking forward to using it often in the coming months. Thank you to the Hylland family for donating two flats of pansies for our patio. They look fabulous and bring a bit of cheer!
Chaplain Craig has been offering prayers and a hymn sing on Thursday mornings which has been a popular time for the residents. His relationship with the residents is heartwarming and we are so fortunate to have him.
Although our days are certainly different around here, we find time to smile and support each other daily. FaceTime, Zoom, Google Duo and phone calls are still a great way to stay connected to family and friends.
I hope today finds you healthy and hopeful,

HEALTH AND WELLNESS: Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month
Every June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness month. It is a chance for the Alzheimer’s Association to hold a global conversation about the brain, Alzheimer’s disease, and other dementias. Everyone who has a brain is at risk to develop Alzheimer’s, which is the only leading cause of death that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed! During the month of June wear purple and use your brain to help fight Alzheimer’s disease! Here are 10 ways to love your brain:
1. BREAK A SWEAT: Engage in regular cardiovascular exercise that elevates your heart rate and increases blood flow to the brain and body.
2. BUTT OUT: Evidence shows that smoking can increase your risk of cognitive decline. Quitting smoking can reduce that risk to levels comparable to those who have not smoked.
3. HEADS UP!: Brain injury can raise your risk of cognitive decline and dementia.
Wear a seat belt and take steps to prevent falls.
4. CATCH SOME ZZZ’s: Not getting enough sleep my result in problems with memory and thinking.
5. BUDDY UP: Staying socially engaged may support brain health. Pursue different
social activities that are meaningful to you.
6. STUMP YOURSELF: Challenge and activate your mind. Complete a jigsaw puzzle. Do something artistic. Play games, such as bridge, that make you think strategically. Challenging your mind may have short- and long-term benefits for your brain.
7. HIT THE BOOKS: Formal education in any stage of life will help reduce your risk of
cognitive decline and dementia.
8. FOLLOW YOUR HEART: Take care of your heart! Evidence shows that risk factors for cardiovascular disease and stroke- obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes- negatively impact your cognitive health.
9. FUEL UP RIGHT: Eating a healthy and balanced diet that is higher in vegetable
and fruit to will help reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
10. TAKE CARE OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH: If you have symptoms of depression, anxieties, or other mental health concerns, seek medical treatment. Also try to manage your stress.

NOTES ON A SPIRITUAL CARE PLAN: from Chaplain Craig’s Desk
You don’t have to be particularly religious to appreciate ritual. Humans are creatures of habit. We have ways of doing things and typically there is an order in which we prefer that they’re done. We all have routines, rhythms, and rules that most times operate invisibly to us and yet give order to our days and meaning to our lives. Indeed, ritual helps us keep time; it distinguishes one day from the next. This is perhaps one of the reasons that time seems to have broken down in recent weeks. “What day is it anyway?”, I’ve heard asked more than once. Stuck inside our homes, many of our typical routines have been upended, if not completely disappeared. Shelter-in-place orders have now expired in many places. As we look toward the gradual re-opening of our world, some are talking about a “new normal”. Why not then establish some “new normal” routines of our own? Here are some suggestions that you might try. In the morning, when you wake up, mark the sign of the cross on your body. “I have been born afresh; through Jesus Christ, God’s word made flesh. Amen.” At mealtime, say grace. “The eyes of all look to you, O God, and you give us our food in its time. Give us love and understanding too, to know that all the world is thine. Amen.” At sunset, light a candle. “Jesus Christ, you are the light of the world, a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Amen.” Every night, before you go to bed, pray to let go of all that is out of your control. “Into your hands, O God, I commend my spirit. Amen.”
