Talking Breeding NSW

THREE litters on the

list this week by

Australia’s latest stud

sensation, Fernando

Bale (March 2013

Kelsos Fusileer* x

Chloe Allen.

Eleven pups in the first of his three litters, registered by

Dobies Bight breeder, Mitchell Northfield.

The three dogs and eight bitches are from the

beautifully bred bitch, 2016 Group 2 Richmond Oaks

winner, Mitcharlie Mia (July 2013 Don’t Knocka Him

x Proper Lucy), whose dam is by Regal Brett x Proper

Jessica (Proper Tears x Pretty Jacalyn).

She is from a litter of eight named, with six of the

seven who raced winning, including three who won

more than ten races.

She was the standout with 38 wins and 24

placings, from her 83 starts, with Lunatic Desley

winning 14 races and Proper Bluey, ten times.

Her wins included three over 535 metres at

Richmond (30.46) where she won the Oaks, 520 metres

at Wentworth Park (29.82), 515 metres at Sandown

(29.44), 525 metres (29.98) and 600 metres (34.49) at

the Meadows and 520 metres at Albion Park (29.90).

Also worth noting, she did win three times over

610 metres at Grafton (35.26), three times over 620

metres at Casino (36.46) and twice over 635 metres at

Lismore (37.10) so she certainly had great middle

distance winning form.

With eight bitches in the litter, there should be

plenty of attention from prospective buyers with future

breeding in mind.

Yetholme breeder, Alan Pringle has the next

Fernando Bale litter, which has four dogs and four

bitches, from the very well bred, lightly raced bitch,

Some Kinda Girl (November 2014 Surf Lorian x My

Kinda Music), whose dam is by El Grand Senor x Ice

Dancer (Spiral Nikita* x Herron Quay).

She is from a litter of eight named, with the seven

who raced all winning, including Yarraman Ace, 19

wins and Roger’s In Town, 10 wins.

Her 19 starts resulted in two wins and nice

placings, with wins over 515 metres at Sandown

(29.88) and 515 metres at Gosford (30.05).

Sandra Oakman, from Sans Isadore, has the other

Fernando Bale litter, which has two dogs and one bitch,

from the well bred bitch, Tranquil Ruby (February

2009 Slater x Berridale Girl), whose dam is by Big Sam

Banner x Fancy Colleen (Barneys Alarm* x Gays

Fancy).

Only two from ler litter of six raced, with

Extreme Climate, 40-12-9-3, and her eleven starts, for

two wins and seven placings.

She won over 320 metres at Wagga (18.75) then

520 metres at Nowra (30.61).

She is already a proven brood bitch, with the

seven named from her first litter, whelped in March

2014, by Magic Sprite, all winning, Tranquil Blossom,

Tranquil Magic, Tranquil Pete, Tranquil Pip, Tranquip

Pop, Tranquil Rue and Tranquil Will.

Sulzanti litter

OUR final litter for review this week, has seven pups

by the beautifully bred, magnificently conformed sire,

Sulzanti (September 2013 Magic Sprite x Scissor

Queen), whose dam is by Knocka Norris x Surf Queen

(Surf Lorian x Queen Size).

The one dog and six bitches are from the well

bred bitch, Mrs Grace (April 2010 Black Enforcer x

Sonnets Grace), whose dam is by Brett Lee x Blue

Sonnet (Silver Chisel x Lyn Osti).

She is from a litter of only four named, which

included Mullet Boy, 4-0-0-0, Pipes, 56-5-6-5 and

Zakeal, 13-5-0-2.

Her record shows she raced 70 times, for 13 wins

and 22 placings, with three wins over 530 metres at

Coonamble (31.02), where she also won twice over 400

metres (23.19) and once over 301 metres (17.88) and

twice over 440 metres at Gunnedah (24.69), with single

wins over 520 metres at Bathurst (30.01), 410 metres at

Coonabarrabran (23.61), 421 metres at Moree (24.47),

400 metres at Richmond (22.82) and 318 metres at

Dubbo (18.56).

She has five named, from her first litter, whelped

in February 2015 litter, by Lochinvar Marlow, which

included, Kago, Polo, Sabang, Spur and the ten races

plus winner, Trianna.

Certainly plenty to like about the pedigree of

these well bred youngsters, with their pedigree

containing as impressive a line up of successful sires as

you would find anywhere.

Sandown Cup night with Andrew Copley Sandown Cup tonight

Andrew Copley

Leading trainer Rob Britton has a strong hand

for tonight’s Group 1 RSN Sandown Cup with litter

brothers Tornado Tears ($1.80) and Rippin’ Sam

($3.10) at the top of the market.

Rippin’ Sam and Tornado Tears. (Pic Clint Anderson.)

Tornado Tears blitzed rivals, including kennelmate

Rippin’ Sam in last Thursday’s Sandown Cup heat,

finishing with a time of 41.30 over 715m.

The white and black chaser also ran a blistering 41.20

first time over 715m – half a length off Miata’s track

record.

Britton is keen to taste Group 1 success with the

explosive sons of Fernando Bale, but he warned that the

Sandown Cup has a history of producing upset results.

“A number of trainers, myself included, tend to

race strong sprinters in the Sandown Cup series in the

hope they can stay the distance, and what that means is

that there’s often a lot of early pace in the final which

can cause interference and lead to an upset,” Britton

said.

Female greyhounds have won the past six

Sandown Cups at an average price of $11, with only

one favourite winning in that time. Moment To Jive

($17) is the only female greyhound in tonight’s final.

The two favourites must contend with outside

boxes, with Tornado Tears (7) and Rippin Sam (8)

drawn alongside each other, while another Britton-

trained greyhound, Benali ($5.50), who will jump from

box No.1, looks a solid third favourite ahead of Dyna

Chancer ($10).

Britton has a fourth Sandown Cup finalist, Quick

Jagger ($21).

The Sandown Cup is the world’s rich greyhound

race for stayers, boasting $250,000 in prize money

ONLY CHAMPIONS RUN OUTSTANDING TIMES LIKE THAT CONSISTENTLY

Hugely in-bred race dogs almost always make the very best stud dogs….

This is how champion sires, Brett Lee, Temlee, Head Honcho, Bombastic Shiraz,

Collision, Surf Lorian and Where’s Pedro are bred.

Worm Burner is line bred 4x4 to litter sisters Sobbing Sal and Hot Show Deb.

He won the 2016 Group 1 National Sprint Championship, 2015 Group 3 Brian

Johnstone Memorial and the 2017 S.A Sprint Championship.

Coursing Results

BENALLA PLUMPTON COURSING CLUB RUNS A

SUCCESSFUL MEETING.

With a very small committee and volunteers the

Benalla club should be proud of a wellrun day. If there

were issues the public were not aware of it. The ladies

provided great food, there were exciting courses and

the weather a comfortable 17deg. All day. There were

great courses throughout the day which makes for

interesting results as we move in to the middle of the

coursing season.

EVENT 1: MCRAE HOLDEN BENALLA CUP.

Of the 8 starters 2 dogs were relatively new to coursing the

other 6 were seasoned dogs all with good records. It was

the first appearance this season for NIGHT ATTACK the

runner up in last year’s Waterloo Cup who coursed twice

but put out in the semi’s by the eventual winner KID

RINGO. KID RINGO trained by Don Jarvis of

Westmeadows with only 1 prior attempt at coursing

(29/4/2018) this 2015 greyhound got better as the day went

on. His 1st course time was 16.28, 2nd., 16.34 and the

final 16.25 to defeat seasoned dog CULLQUIN

BOMBER trained by Richard Anchen at Nagambie. The

final going down to virtually no more than a length on the

line. It was a great course.

EVENT 2: ROBERT BRITTON GREYHOUND

TRAINING FOR ALL AGED. Another new dog on the

sceneRALOO BARBARA trained at Rockbank by Wade Green with only 1 appearance under his belt this season he

showed a clean pair of paws (6L) over ROGER EXPRESS in the final trained by Joshua Moody of St Albans. In all

of Raloo Barabara’s courses he clocked 16.16, 16.16 and 16.18 respectively. Looks like Wade Green has a good

coursing dog in the making.

EVENT 3: ANTHONY AZZOPARDI GREYHOUND TRAINING BITCH PUPPY. Dallas Massina of Golden

Square’s Bk B, BARINYA coursed well over the day defeating reserve CELESTIAL JEWELL trained by long time

coursing trainer John Westerlo of Clyde.

EVENT 4: D TREWIN & T WOMANN MIXED PUPPY EVENT. HOT DOT TWO in his first ever coursing

attempt and trained in Warragul by Phillip Scott-Smith defeated MY DEWANA SNOWY who is trained by Dave

Reid at St Albans.

EVENT 5: BARRY MARSHALL CARPETS DOG PUPPY. We saw the Calven Russell (Kyabram) ZAMBORA

ANDY defeat YAKARI trained by Dallas Massina of Golden Square. All times recorded over the day were even for

these young puppies.

EVENT 6: MGRA MAIDEN BITCH. Axedale trainer Alice Peat’s BK B ELAINE AVENUE with consistent

times over all 3 courses won over KISSABLE in the final trained at Balliang by Gary Manion.

EVENT 7: ROB MAZAR MELBOURNE SERVICE CENTRE MAIDEN BITCH 2. Desmond Trethowan

(Chiltern) MIRACLE CHERRY coursed well to defeat TOTAL DIVA trained at Warragul South by Alan Tougher.

This was a great final going to the wire and the decision by a head.

EVENT 8: BRAD & MEL’S FOOD & FUEL MAIDEN DOG 1. In this event we saw a coursing dog of the

futureDAVE’S ENTITY a Knocka Norris son and trained by Dean Allsop of Cranbourne West coursed brilliantly

with times in order of 16.00, 15.87 and 16.00 defeating by 5 lengths in the final JUST NIMBLE IT trained in Golden

Square by Robyn Massina. How exciting for Dean as I believe this is the only dog in his kennel.

EVENT 9: GERALD & MATT LANIGAN KENNELS MAIDEN DOG 2. BLACK LAZARUS trained in Red

Cliffs by Melissa Fullerton after recent Semi Final defeats crossed the line first by a head over RHOMBOID trained

by Jason Formosa of Heathcote. It was a great final to watch.

EVENT 10: SARGENT’S PIES RESERVOIR MAIDEN DOG 3. Handy chaser ARE YOU trained in

Invergordon by Eddy Hamilton defeated LOVE LAUGHING trained by Mark Strahan of Bendigo.

EVENT 11: LOOT LODGE – ROD MILLINGTON MAIDEN DOG 4. CHUM’S SPECIAL ran consistent

times in his heats and trained by Evan Keene of Long Gully defeating by 5L in the final JACK’S ON DECK who is

trained in Mansfield by Robert Plunkett.

EVENT 12: JACK & CAROL WESTERLO’S MAIDEN DOG 5. In each course the winner VALDAR BALE

improved his times trained by Joshua Formosa at Heathcote defeating DESSY FOZZ trained by Brian Fothergill of

Numurkah. Sue Delaney

Greyhounds in the home

A very special Happy 13th Birthday

to my baby boy - Moby. We were

blessed to have this handsome boy

come to our family when he was

three and a half years old.

Since that day, he has continually

made me laugh with his crazy

antics, & quirky personality. I am eternally grateful

for all the unconditional love he gives every day, to

every member of our household. Enjoy your roast

chicken dinner baby boy xx Maree Towart

Pistol wants to be close to me, so I put his bed next to

me. Such a tight space but he is happy. He doesn't

stir at night.

FOSTER A GREYHOUND:

There are many greyhounds who need a little more

assistance to help them settle into pet life

They fall into two categories

Greyhounds who are transitioning from the track

and need help to pass their GAP assessment

OR

Those dogs who have been a marginal fail at their

GAP assessment

These dogs are just gorgeous happy greyhounds, the

only difference is that need a little more help to

transition into pet life

The reality is that without foster carers some of

these dogs are at risk

If you would like to change the life of beautiful dog
