    MORGAN BERINGER, UKMOMENT 05

Part of a continuing series of experimental videos, extending the impressions granted by individual

    moments.

Morgan Beringer is an American artist based in East London. Having spent and continuing to spend much

of his life in transit between different countries, the thrust of his creative concern stems from the dilemma

of living inbetween cultures. An acedemic background in both philosophy and art pushed these concerns

further into the realms of linguistics, performance and film/video art.

CHRISTINA MILLARE, UKBATHTUBS AND DESERT ISLANDS

Bathtubs and Desert Islands is inspired by my recent obsession with the summer holiday and its mark on

the calendar as a yearly means of mental and physical escape. During the making of this video I was

intrigued by found stock film footage of families on holiday and beach scenes, which represent the ideal

escape. Some of the found footage I was most drawn to features as a backdrop to my bathtub

    imaginations.

Most of this piece was filmed from and in my bathtub with some exterior footage filmed from my front

door and the road I live on in quiet suburbia.

Christina Millare is a video artist and curator based in the UK.

"My videos are almost like another layer of skin. They are visual representations of whatever is currently

irking my mental state be it my want to better understand myself from a biological standing point or my

want to predict the future. All in a sense encapsulate a form of my identity. In past projects I have used

video as a cathartic medium from which I expel my notions on death, puberty and sex."

    MARTINA JACOMA, SWITZERLANDASSENZIA

Within this gap the ghost of a presence wanders invisibly; Assnzia illuminates fragments of memories and

mixes them with possible pieces of future, leaving on the ground, and then tearing, written

pages"mutilating old stories and generating free thoughts"...happy sure to be misunderstood, not

necessarily wanting to communicate, but rather trying to awaken impulses through "the passion of the

moment"...generating the fight that stirs anxiety and apathy and makes them more

constructive"Believing to be able to increase its own happiness."

An isolated place and time apart to talk about the solitude of the creative process.

    RACHEL RAYNS, UK50/50, INSIDE/OUTSIDE, ME/YOU

A buffet of narrative; a selection of stories for your choosing. 50/50, Inside/Outside, Me/You is a

bombardment of living frames selected by clinical formula. It highlights not only the inevitable spillage of

artist essence into the work, but the viewers desire to attach meaning when the film intends to tell every

    and no story.

Film by Rachel Rayns, Audio by Adam Rix, Assistant Ed Sinclair.

Bio Rachel Rayns is currently undertaking a BA in Fine Art at the University for the Creative Arts, based in

Farnham, Surrey. Rachel's interests lay in exploring preconceived narrative devices used in traditional

filmmaking, used alongside the mechanical manipulation of camera.

    TUNED TO THE FLOWER

Tuned To The Flower is inspired by the idea of sentient plants.

Having read fragments of the book Secret Life of Plants by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird, I saw myself surrounded by the world of vibrating consciousness and felt much more connected to everything

around me. Unity and communication between all things occurred to me as obvious and amazing phenomenon.

I created a fantasy vision of an enormous aquatic plant, which has a humanized character. Its inside is avibrating universe of chambers and spaces. All is connected, flexible, ever transforming and ever shifting. A

viewer travels through the chambers and experiences oneself as if embraced by the flower.

Such a vision is not as extraordinary as it sounds. In fact we are bound to live in the arms of nature in total unity. We are an integral part of nature and we can learn its secrets and so ourselves.

Tuned to the flower is not a story driven film, it is rather a sensation embracing a viewer. The idea of ahypnotic fluidity, mastered composition and rhythm are crucial aspects of this film. My animation is a visual

metaphor for a constant vibration of the universe that exists on all its levels.

Gosia Prokop is a Polish born animator and experimental filmmaker currently living in London, UK.She graduated from University of East London in 2010 with a BA (Hons) in Moving image and Animation.

Apart from animating she intensively collaborates with theatre performers and also works in the field of art workshops for people with learning difficulties.

SHARLENE BAMBOAT, UK/CANADAMECHANIZED LABOUR (VIDEO INSTALLATION)

Mechanized Labour comments on the aftermath of interruptive institutional critiques, which the Londonbased art

activist group Liberate Tate demonstrated on Monday, 28 June 2010 at the Tate Britain. The group poured buckets

of crude oil (molasses) and feathers, in the middle of Tate Britain's summer party in protest against the gallery's

sponsorship ties with British Petroleum. They called on the Tate to end its sponsorship deal with BP following the

disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in April, 2010.

While I was there to film the art activist group, I realized that the clean up process that followed the oil spillprotest

was more compelling. It was designated to the maintenance staff of the museum made up primarily of migrant

workers who were left with the clearing of the mess, thats how I ended up documenting their long cleanup

    process.

I had a number of theoretical questions, while working on this video. While institutional critiques of a performative

nature are important, I found that they reiterated many of the same issues they critiqued. Thus, four Latin American

migrant workers (shown in the video) were left cleaning up Liberate Tates antiBP protest and brought up a numberof systemic issues surrounding migrant labour and privilege in contemporary British society.

Sharlene Bamboat is a film and video artist whose work revolves around themes of diaspora, queerness and the

female body. Her graduate thesis, completed in Toronto, Canada, explored identity construction in the experimental

films and videos of the South Asian diaspora.

Sharlenes work has been gaining notoriety in recent months, screening internationally in Canada, Europe and the

UK. She is currently living and working in the UK.
