A NEWSLETTER OF VIDYA NIKETAN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

FROM THE PRINCIPALS DESK

Dear Students,

Greetings to you!!!!

I welcome the children back to school as the new academic year begins with renewed zeal and commitment.

Each day when I walk the school aisle, I hear the chatter of eager minds, and the sound of melodious voices harmonizing. We, with a different perceptive, allow you to relish your precious childhood...

Beside the scholastic programmes, we encourage you to mark your name in all spheres such as art and craft, music, sports, environmental conservation activities, sensitizing you on social issues like racial discrimination, gender inequality, child labour etc. and the list goes on.

It was Margaret Mead who said Children must be taught how to think, not what to think, and to enable this, our motto of Born to be Free is encouraged through a holistic approach.

This is a special edition of VIDYARTHI, dedicated to the day the school was first established on 6th April 1986. From now onwards, this Founders Day which we celebrate every year on 6th April, will be termed as Freedoms Day. To us the word freedom means numerous things. It means getting to do what you want to do and making your own choices. It means that you can have your own opinion which can be shared with other people even if they dont agree with you. For these reasons, and a whole lot more, freedom is a very important concept. Just as values, traditions and norms are different in different communities, Freedom is like a vast ocean where each drop of water is different in colour and texture. One should recognize these differences, and try not to overlap in anothers zone of freedom. Remember always to maintain a balance between Freedom and Responsibility.

Our students produced wonderfully creative and beautiful illustrations on

Freedom to love, and be loved

Freedom from Injustice

Freedom to defend the defenseless.

Freedom of expression.

Freedom to make your own choices,

And much more.

I want to be

I want to be a teacher when I

Grow up. I want to teach

every child and give them

Knowledge about everything.

I like the way my teacher teaches me.

After parents there is the teacher who is always at our side.

She is my role model, And some day, I want to be someones role model too.

I love being a teacher.

Freedom Freedom!

Freedom , Freedom they shout,

Freedom, freedom they say,

Obsessed with freedom!

Freedom, freedom night and day.

They have erected and they

Show large statues of freedom.

Freedom, freedom they sing alike.

Hymns and slogans, then beat the drum.

Bombings, theft and dacoity

Disguised in the name of freedom.

Killings, torture all are fine,

Just shout freedom, freedom

But are they themselves free?

Handful rule them with a glee.

People of money and media and

Walls of prejudice and lies I see.

Few have taken them as hostage

And theyve made world unfree.

I pray for their freedom so that

Entire world become free.

MY DREAM FOR INDIA

Where the mind is free from the chains of fear

Where the road ahead always seems clear

Where doors of opportunity open to all

Where there is no division, no border, no wall

Where the head is held aloft and high

Where ambition can soar to the sky

Where temples, mosques, churches stand side by side

Where in every field, we have won glory and pride

Where truth is a religion, a way of life

Where united we stay in times of strife

Where technology exists with traditions grand

This is my dream for India, my motherland.

Freedom from evils within

What comes to our mind when we hear these expressions- freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom from colonization. This talks of freedom from the outer world. But what about the world within us? What about freedom from our inner demons? We dont even think of it. Freedom from the outer world is important but more important is the freedom from our inner devils. There is a world within us. A world full of anger and devils. A world where a few angels always try to guide us to do the right things and a world where many devils constantly keep on suppressing those good voices within us, provoking us to do the wrong. These angels and devils are none other than our own thoughts and emotions. Thoughts of perseverance, integrity, loyalty and humanity are like those angels who help us in becoming a better person while the thoughts of arrogance, ego, greed and vengeance are the real monsters.

Emotions need to flow within us but we mustnt flow within them. When this happens we can become a slave of our own emotions and in such a kind of slavery, all we lose is our own self-respect and humanity.

In each of us two natures are at war the good and the evil. No matter how hard evil tries, it can never match up to the power of good, as evil is ultimately self-destructive. It may set out to corrupt others, but in the process it corrupts itself. All through our lives, the fight goes on between them and one of them must conquer. But in our own hands lies the power to choose-what we want to be. And yes.

In order to call ourselves free, we need to fight our inner demons.

Love For Writing And Even A Greater Amount of Love For Dogs.

Tumbling! Stumbling!

Along the dark pavement

In the middle of the night

scared to move and frozen.

when I heard a familiar voice,

I gathered my courage

And followed that voice

which leads me to someone whom I trust more than my life.

I sat on my knees

tears streaming down my face.

And then he came, with his four soft paws

and started licking my face

I never felt more belonged to a place

KINDERGARTEN DEPARTMENT

Welcome to Vidya Niketan.

Take a moment to imagine the Kindergarten World:

Letters, numbers, stories, sharing blocks, puzzles, play, paint and playing with dough. Imagination and creativity is everywhere. As you talk with your child about their day and celeb rate their best effort, on the work they do; remember that Kindergarten is a Childs Garden. Many times the process is more important than the result, and learning is accomplished by experiencing and application of the concept.

It is here that our children begin to develop initiative, independence, decision making ability, creativity, and early literacy. The desire to learn, the ability to relate to others, communication skills and a feeling of self-confidence all these and a lot of fun too.
