Passenger TerminalOne of Vienna International Airport’s biggest assets is its ONEROOF CONCEPT facilitating short walking distances. The centralpassenger area includes two levels. The ground floor is used forarrivals, the first floor for departures and transfer. Pier gates andbus gates are within short walking distance from the centralterminal area, thus providing high comfort and convenience fordeparting and arriving passengers as well as for transfer passengers.

Passengers can use the dedicated check-in counters and the self-check-in facilities in the terminal or the check-in counters in theCity Air Terminal in the centre of Vienna. All of the 107 check-incounters are equipped with SITA/CUTE.

The „Plaza – Airport-Shopping“ offers a range of different shops andrestaurants. VIP & Business Services provide passenger services ofoutstanding quality as well as conference rooms for meetings andworkshops. Various lounges in all areas invite the passenger to relax.The 5 star NH Hotel is located next to the terminal area.

Downtown Vienna is only a 20-minute drive away by car. Special air-port buses take passengers to and from the City to the airport every 20minutes. In addition to the local train services the City Airport Train(CAT), a direct train service from the City Air Terminal to the airport,offer a stress-free 16-minute ride to and from the airport every 30minutes.

Security ServicesA special federal police department has been established to ensu-re protection and security at Vienna International Airport. It issupported by an anti-terrorist combat unit – the Kranich Force –equipped with helicopters, armoured vehicles and state-of the-artcrime and drug detection equipment.Passenger related security services are provided by the followingprivate/non-governmental companies:

• VIAS – Vienna International Airport Security Services GmbH• LIS Sicherheitsberatung für Luftfahrt und Industrieanlagen GmbH

Range of services provided:Carry-on luggage and passenger screening form an integral partof passenger safety. The Austrian government assigned this taskto a special-purpose Vienna International Airport subsidiary, cal-led VIAS, which – in this field of activity – acts on official behalf.

The second field of activity concerns bilateral contracts with airli-nes to ensure that they fulfil their special security requirements(e.g. passenger check-in screening, check of passport and visarequirements, additional security measures when the aircraft is“on block”).

Fire/Emergency ServiceThe airport fire/emergency service, which is on permanent stand-by, is located at two independent support bases. From these loca-tions, each and every point on the runways, taxiway system andapron area can be reached within three minutes. This unit is alsoin charge of recovering disabled aircrafts of any size. Members ofthis unit have state-of-the-art fire fighting, rescue vehicles andfacilities at their disposal.

Medical CentreThe Vienna International Airport Medical Centre is located next tothe departure gates in the central terminal building. Staffed withmedical doctors, paramedics and registered nurses, it providesfirst aid 24 hours a day. The Medical Centre is also a WHO-appro-ved international vaccination centre where all vaccinations andadvice in travel medicine are available.
