OCTOBER 2004 10/15/2004

Exercise Your Precious Right - Vote on November 2!The basic freedoms we enjoy as citizens of the United States are subject to the periodic exercise of the most precious right--the privilege to vote.

For over two hundred years, Americans have been able to participate in the democratic process of electing our leaders and determining policies affecting the way we are governed. Our representative form of government places great responsibilityand authority on whom we elect. Equally important is the role each voter plays in this process. It is our responsibility tobecome knowledgeable of issues and candidates before we cast our vote. An uninformed, disinterested voter is an affront toour democratic process and undermines the very values that make this country unique among the world of nations.

I can relate from personal experience the high value elected officials place on informed, responsible citizens. You need onlylook at the long lines of first time voters in Afghanistan to appreciate how previous is our right to vote.

Elsewhere in this issue is an outline of the eight proposed amendments on the November ballot and FCMA's position on each.We encourage you to review this article. I believe that we have compromised our state constitution and we risk having it heldhostage by special interest groups. Therefore, I urge you to vote FOR Amendment 2 to begin the return of the stateconstitution to be a document of governance for all of us.

FCMA's Government Relations Committee and your Board are actively involved in issues affecting manufacturing. November 2gives each of us the chance to be responsible, caring, informed citizens. Take advantage of the opportunity. Be an informedvoter on November 2. It's important to you, your family and your country!
