Tips for rainbow spotting from rainbow expert Professor John Thornes:

A rainbow is possible at any time of day between mid September and mid March Rainbows are best seen early in the morning and late in the afternoon Rainbows are more common in the afternoon as rain showers have had more time

to develop Remember the sun must be behind you so look towards the west in the morning and

towards the east in the afternoon and to the north at midday between September and March.  You will never see a rainbow to the south!
