2) Shared Google Doc Folders (Updated) (back to top) In an effort to reduce file attachments, I have put together 3 google document folders which contain information on the following:

1) Shared Trainings and Professional Development for Students with Autism In Wisconsin: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B3vTxXOQ1jR9OHBYRnA4TkNRUEE&usp=sharing This folder will hold fliers for professional development around Wisconsin 2) Shared New Autism Resources: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B3vTxXOQ1jR9ZF9UalM4VThVS3c&usp=sharing This will be new information each time I send a new email update (about once every 1-3 months) 3) Shared Archived Autism Resources: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B3vTxXOQ1jR9VzRxLW42R0JYd00&usp=sharing Any documents I have shared in the past with email distribution lists and are still relevant. This folder is broken into “autism resources”, “DPI and Dept of Education”, “Family Engagement”, and “General Education Resources”  Some people have difficulty with Google Doc Technology.  Here are a few tips.1) Use Chrome or Firefox browser2) Cut/paste or click on link to google doc3) Depending on your browser, you may need to click around to open it up.  Typically, most browsers now show a "preview" page, but if you print this, it only prints part of the document.  To get the full document, find a button called "open" or "download" or dropdown menu under file and then download or open.

If you want to help common threads get this grant you can vote for them on facebook here https://www.state-assist.com/cause/1501729/meaningful-employment, The grant would allow Common Threads Family Resource Center in McFarland to teach young adults with special needs career skills and daily living skills in food service. The grant would help build a licensed kitchen that would be used for training young adults on the autism spectrum and help with transition from school into the community. The kitchen would operate as a catering business, offering additional learning about planning events, customer service, money handling and budgeting, time management and working with others.   Our organization strives to improve the lives and welfare of people in our community, and we can further that mission by rallying together and encouraging others to join us in support by voting.

Wisconsin Promise Services and a computer tablet. Services include career exploration and planning, job development and placement, on-the-job supports, work incentives benefits counseling, financial training and coaching, social skills training, and self- and family advocacy training.

Wisconsin Promise Services are provided through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) to both the youth and their family members to help achieve their employment and education goals.  Under this grant, schools, mental health programs, long term care programs, vocational rehabilitation programs, and child welfare programs are all working together to support youth and families.

Because the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) is a main PROMISE partner, the DPI Special Education Team is highly involved and we strongly support the work of the PROMISE program. We ask that you share information about Wisconsin Promise with the youth who are 14, 15 or 16 years old who are receiving SSI and their families.

The 2015 National Autism Indicators Report: Transition into Young Adulthood published by A.J. Drexel Autism Institute is now available: drexe.lu/autismindicators

Message from Anne Roux:“We hope this report will be useful for decision-makers, program planners, policymakers, and advocates. It provides a comprehensive overview of what we know

Page 18:   · Web viewDay two will include sectionals on Universal Design for Learning ( UDL), Assistive Technology ( AT) and ... Check to see if space is still available for

about how adults with autism are faring. But, importantly, it also highlights the amount of information we are missing. We will be producing 1-2 page fact sheets for each of the main chapters, which we think will be useful for advocacy efforts. As we endeavor to construct more useful information products, we would love to hear any feedback about what is helpful in this report and what we should consider as we create additional Autism Indicators reports. Are there specific topics for which people need additional national indicators? We have a general sense of the need for info around services and disconnection, but additional guidance is helpful in our effort to be create responsive, practical publications. This type of feedback will guide our next steps.”

Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) Toolkit

A Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan Toolkit has been released and posted to the DPI website. This toolkit is designed to provide schools a resource to guide effective practice in understanding a student’s pattern of behaviors, designing proactive interventions to address those behaviors, and ensuring fidelity to quality practice. The process of conducting a functional behavioral assessment and developing a behavior intervention plan will be used to guide this work. This toolkit draws from existing resources, and provides a comprehensive set of options for assessing student behavior and supporting behavior change.

OSEP continues to receive letters from those who work with children with disabilities with high cognition, particularly those with emotional

disturbance or mental illness, expressing concern that some local educational agencies (LEA) are hesitant to conduct initial evaluations to determine eligibility for special education and related services for children with high cognition. Please review the Letter to Delisle - http://www2.ed.gov/policy/speced/guid/idea/memosdcltrs/index.html?exp=2 In addition, Wisconsin’s Toolkit for Gifted Education includes examples of service plans for twice exceptional students. Informational interviews with parents at the beginning of the year. Close relationships with local schools of education. Finely tuning one’s personal “antennae” to detect staff comfort with cultures besides their own. These are themes of new videos posted to the Promoting Excellence for All website. The videos describe how Wisconsin schools have closed achievement gaps using strategies identified by the Promoting Excellence for All: State Superintendent’s Task Force on Wisconsin’s Achievement Gap. Promoting Excellence for All presents strategies identified by 17 Wisconsin teachers and administrators as having successfully closed achievement gaps at their schools. The schools were themselves identified through a DPI data analysis as being among those with the most vigorous gap-closing history in the state. Videos can be found at http://dpi.wi.gov/news/dpi-connected/more-gap-closing-strategy-videos.
