GREEN SCREEN FILMING

NIGHT

Directed by Trish Glossop

YOUR CHANCE TO WIN

$500 worth of ARTBEATS

ROYALTY-FREE STOCK FOOTAGE TONIGHT!

At last, summer is approaching and the hot weather is starting, so let’s say “Goodbye” to the cold and bring on the sunny days. I hope it will encour-age all of us to film some magic footage and bring it along to look at. I thought last month’s club night was great, and this month will be even better! The club committee has, with the help of Trish, organised a fabulous look into a Green Screen filming, where most of the members will be involved. I have always wanted to learn more about Green Screen filming and now that we are going to do it, I am very excited! But I will miss a lot of it as I will be the invisible man (just kidding)!

I must thank Trish for the won-derful work she has done putting this idea forward, as I know everyone will love the night. There will be flying men, skiing, headless bodies - just a few ideas that you will see. There are many more different shoots, so you all will have to be there…that is why I am not reveal-ing the rest of the night to you!

Thank you Mark, for showing us some of the shots from the BBC video you brought on Green Screen filming last month. It is good to see how the profes-sionals do it.

From the

Vice President

Be inspired and

Keep the Batteries Charged!!

Mark Franks

Vice President

Stay Focused and Keep Shooting. Bob Hallett President

Sorry David, that you were cut

short again last month, but your

input on new and exciting technol-

ogy that you bring to the club is

invaluable, and I know that you

have so many more things to tell us

about.

Thank you Max and Josie for

the fabulous job you do bring-

ing and getting our supper

ready each club night. I know

each and every club member

does appreciate your efforts,

and also for the work you both

do behind the scenes internally

in the club.

Thank you for supporting our raffle as

it helps run the club. Margo was very

happy to win the Artbeats prize of

$500 worth of

royalty-free

stock footage

last month.

Jan also has a bottle of wine to be won each

month, and it is a bit of fun if you win something.

November is our last general meeting for the year, before the Christmas Party in December, and with the festive season comes more video-making opportunities, with parties a-plenty, and catching up with old friends and family that

we never seem to see enough of.

We all need to be a little bit “in your face” and get

our cameras out, or the mobile phone, to capture

the special moments that make Christmas into

Christmas… people greeting each other, kids

playing in the backyard then opening presents,

excesses of food on the kitchen table,

cracking open a bubbly bottle and toasting to

everyone's good health,

relatives in deep

discussion, and

the light-hearted

moments as kids

sleep on the

lounge tuckered

out,

farewell kisses and hugs.

Wow!... sounds like a good

script for a video... maybe not a

competition winner, but a

winner for the family in years

to come... something that

becomes priceless - something that a credit card

cannot buy!

If you haven’t let Jan

know if you are coming to

the Christmas function,

please do it ASAP for

catering purposes.

See you all at the November club meeting for the

Green Screen night.

I hope Reinfrid and his

wife Laura had a great

time up in Cairns. It

will be good to see

Reinfrid back at the next

club night with some

wonderful footage to

show.

Our next club meeting on Wednesday, 11th November will be the last for the year in our club room, with the planned format being a Green Screen production which will be directed by Trish Glossop. Mario will provide the

lighting and rods for the green screens, with Bob Hallett, Mark Franks and Josie Milgate as our camera operators capturing the action, and myself Jan Hudson,

filming the "behind the scenes" shots of our produc-tion crew as they film our actors -Maureen, Margo, Kevin, Harold, Malcolm, John Stimson, Max, John Wilson, Bob Hallett, Mark Franks and David Llewellyn. This meeting

promises to be a fun-filled night and if all goes to plan and scripts, the footage should make for some interesting entries in a proposed Green Screen competition in the new year. Please make sure you arrive on time as we have a full program and would appreciate members being seated prior to "cameras rolling" on set.

Annual Christmas Party Our December meeting will be our annual Christmas party held on Wednesday 9th December at "Caffe 43" Heathcote Road Moorebank commencing from 7.30pm, with the meal served from 8pm. The meal will be buffet style with the following menu:

for catering purposes, we

require payment and names of

persons who will be attending to

be finalised at our next meeting on the 11th

November.

allergies (garlic, nuts, seafood etc)

please advise me, and Joey and

Anthony from Caffe 43 will

prepare an individual portion for

you.

Entree/ starters will be: - a Vietnamese salad with Pork and prawns (serve yourself) - Spring rolls and chicken skewer (serve yourself)

Main meal: - Roast pork and Roast Beef (this is carved and served by Anthony), accompanied by Steamed vegeta-bles and Fried Rice (serve yourself) Dessert: Fruit platter and cake platter

Thank you again to members who support our

monthly raffle, and to Artbeats for donating $500

worth of Artbeats royalty-free stock footage for

inclusion in our monthly lucky member draw. Last

month the Artbeats prize went to Margo Hallett

and the bottle of wine was won by David

Llewellyn. Congratulations to both members and

remember, to be a winner you must support our

raffle.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our next

meeting, as well as catching up with members at

both the Edius User Group meeting on the 4th

November and club meeting on the 11th

EDIUS User Group

Report

I better stop now and get ready for our group

meeting on Wednesday 4th November.

Until then,

Remember...

make movies, make friends.

All the best,

Reinfrid Langmann

Hi all,

Well, a lot of things have happened since our last

User Group meeting. Edius have brought in

workgroup 8.1 and I'm sure we will all try and get

our head around this upgrade. I wrote to them after

returning from northern Queensland and was

informed that they never mentioned the date of

releasing the upgrade, which is quite correct. So

now we will get to know 8.1 and work with it.

During the month of October, both Laura and I

had a short break in Cairns and Port Douglas,

where we finally met up with our

good friend Andreas Huber, the

CEO from ProDAD.

We all had a fantastic time, especially Andreas. He

is after all, a very hard worker and deserved this

short break, where he was able to follow his

passion of scuba diving. He was very happy to be

able to actually touch some of the inhabitants of

our great coral reef… lucky him!

I was also informed that ProDAD is currently

working on a new plug-in for various editing

programs…however I have been sworn to total

secrecy! The only thing I can say is that it will be

very useful for most of us in the future.

Andreas informed me that after he returns home, he

will again have to visit Japan for business.

JOKES of the MONTH

Digital Planet Technologies/

Last week, we were glad to meet Andreas Huber

CEO from Prodad.

proDAD DEFISHR is the

world’s first fully auto-

matic fisheye distortion

correction solution for

video.

While visiting Australia, Andreas had the opportu-nity to drop in to our office and gave us a run through some of the existing, as well as the new products such as ProDrenalin and Defishr.

ProDRENALIN is a ridiculously simple & afford-able tool for automatically removing fisheye and perspective distortion, stabilizing, correcting rolling-shutter, and even de-noising the video.

At last month’s meeting, members were treated to an enjoyable night

watching the 6 entries in the September (7-minute) Video Competition.

You are able to view them, as well as videos in past collections, on

Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/album/3553296). Thanks to all

the videomakers who submitted entries.

Thanks also to our Competition Manager,

Ron Potter for his efforts to make our

competitions such a great success.

Wollongong Camera Club Movie Makers were excellent hosts of the 22nd Combined Clubs’ Meeting at Figtree Heights Public School on Saturday, 10th October. Members and visitors of ACT Video Camera Club, Milton Ulladulla Video Club, Shoalhaven Movie and Multi Media Group join the Wollongong club twice a year for a Combined Clubs’ meeting which is hosted by each of the clubs in turn.

A special invitation was extended to members and visitors of our club, as well as the Sydney Video Makers’ Club. An enthusiastic group of 16 from our club were treated to a well organised and fun-filled day with informative presentations and very interesting discussions.

“The wonders of wildlife and macro videography” by renowned videographer, photographer and author, Nic van Oudtshoorn (Associate of the Royal Photographic Society) “blew us all away” with the incredible footage he presented.

“Telling engaging stories – scripts, teams and the obstacles we all face!” which was presented by Ruskin Spiers, president of Sydney Video Makers’ Club, proved to be a valuable source of inspiration.

Many thanks to chairman Tom Hunt, and members of the Wollongong Camera Club Movie Makers for your warm hospitality, not to mention spoiling us with a delicious lunch as well as morning and afternoon teas!

John Wilson demonstrat-ing the workings of his personally constructed “Go Spin 360” during the “Show and Tell” segment.
