As auto-steer has become standard on most large

equipment, the next step forward was the introduction of systems such as John Deere’s iTEC Pro. This system employs a series of controllers, linked by a CAN (controller area network) bus, operating at 250 Kbits/second.

Program: Ron Wilcox was introduced as the Program chair and he described the next few weeks of programs then introduced Stewart Moorehead as a replacement speaker ill Julian Sanchez. Stewart is Manager of the John Deere Technology Innovation center located in the U of I Research Park.Stewart Moorenhead spoke about the Autonomous Systems being explored by the JohnDeere Company as they relate to agriculture. Auto steer is in the news with regard to the automobile industry but Agricutlure has been using auto steer for the past 15+ years.

One of the projects Stewart Moorehead was involved with included an automated mowing machine. The research determined that auto mowers were possible and that they can be controlled from remote or auto programmed to function. One product that is being marketed is the Tango E5, an electric mower that automatically mows and returns to it’s storage/charging center. The TANGO E5 is designed to maintain your lawn automatically meaning you can enjoy the more important aspects of life. Designed, innovated and built by John Deere to its highest manufacturing standards, the TANGO E5 autonomous mower sets a new bench mark in lawn maintenance.
