WHEREAS: Danny served aboard the USS Franklin during World War II; and

WHEREAS: Danny’s passing will leave a void in the lives of all his surviving family, his daughters Susan and Donna Trotto; his brothers Anthony, Raymond, Cosmo, Frank, and Paul Trotto; his sister Louise Aprile; his sisters-in-law Eleanor, Civita, Peggy, and Eleanor Trotto; his brother-in-law Gus Aprile; his former wife Annette Nazzaro; and his several nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS: Thomas, 14, swam very well; he is poised to be among the top four 13/14 year old swimmers in the region in the New England Championships and will be attending the Milton Academy as a freshmen in the fall; and

WHEREAS: James, 15, placed second in the 200-freestyle and fourth in the 100 butterfly at the Independent School League Championships, as well as a Boston Globe All Scholastic and a High School All American in four events; and

WHEREAS: John, who just turned 8, placed in all six events he swam, his most rewarding swim being a second in the100-meter freestyle in 1:19.97 and finished his outstanding season by coming in fifth among New England swimmers; and

WHEREAS: Robert, 11, swam his personal best in nine of eleven events. His top finish was in the 50-meter freestyle at 30.95. He also did extraordinarily well in the longer distance events, swimming 2:31.30 in the 200 freestyle; now therefore be it

WHEREAS: On September 15th -16th,, 2001 over 1,000 hand-blown glass pumpkins, squashes and gourds in all sizes, shapes, colors and designs will transform a grassy court at MIT into a colorful “Great Glass Pumpkin Patch”; and

WHEREAS: This event will take place at MIT, in front of Kresge Auditorium, located at 48 Massachusetts Avenue; and

WHEREAS: Visitors of all ages are invited to stroll through the “pumpkin patch” on MIT’s Kresge Oval and choose their favorite autumnal orb between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM each day; and

WHEREAS: Many of the works feature not only vivid colors, but swirls, stripes, spots, curlicues and unusual stems; and

WHEREAS: The glass pumpkins are created by students in MIT’s Glass Lab, an art program connected with MIT’s Department of Material Science and Engineering, and members of the Bay Area Glass Institute (BAGI), a non profit community-access studio in San Jose, California founded in 1996 by MIT alumnus Mike Binnard. Proceeds will benefit both organizations; and

WHEREAS MIT’s pumpkin-making is being overseen by glass artist Peter Houk, currently in residence at the Glass Lab; now therefore be it

WHEREAS: Cities and urban areas today occupy only 2% of the earth’s land, but contain 50% of its population and consume 75% of its resources; and

WHEREAS: The most rapid urban growth over the next two decades is expected in cities with populations ranging from 250,000 to one million; and

WHEREAS: Along with advantages and amenities, the rapid growth of cities leads to substantial pressure on their infrastructure, manifested in sanitary, health and crime problems, as well as in deterring the provision of basic social services; and

WHEREAS: In the interest of national and environmental security, nations must redouble voluntary and humanitarian efforts to stabilize their population growth at sustainable levels, while at all times respecting the cultural and religious beliefs and values of their citizens; and

WHEREAS: World Population Awareness Week was proclaimed last year by Mayors of 315 United States cities, as well as Governors of 32 states, and was co-sponsored by 231 organizations in 63 countries; and

WHEREAS: In 2001 the theme for World Population Awareness Week is “Population and the Urban Future”; now therefore be it

WHEREAS: Embarking on its breathtaking journey to the World Series, this Cambridge all-star team, also known as “the comeback kids,” dazzled their way through three rounds of previous tournament play, securing its place in New Jersey through District, Eastern Massachusetts and New England regional titles; and

WHEREAS: Buoyed by its victory against the premier championship teams from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, Cambridge entered the World Series tournament energized to challenge winning teams from the seven other regional tournaments—British Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana and Pennsylvania—along with New Jersey’s host teams—Cherry Hill, Hamilton and Nottingham—and a national team from Italy; and

WHEREAS: Playing six games over two rounds of competition, Cambridge persevered through a grueling schedule and disappointing loss to the ultimate World Series victor, Hawaii, to reach the Championship round of the World Series, becoming the pride of the City of Cambridge; and

WHEREAS: During closing ceremonies, Dan Cohen and Dan Nezcypor were named to the All-Tournament Team; and

WHEREAS: This success reflects the extraordinary skill and determination of players, the overwhelming support of their families and the Cambridge Babe Ruth Program, and the experienced coaching of manager George Alexander and coaches George Hinds and Marco Giampa; and

WHEREAS: Pauline and Mark spent many years working together establishing the Harvard Book Store, founded by Mark in Harvard Square in 1932. Over the years the conpany has operated several bookstores and a bookstore/restaurant in the Greater Boston area; and

WHEREAS: Pauline was also a passionate art lover and supporter; she attended and supported many local art museums;

WHEREAS: In 1966, Pauline moved to Florida, where she organized and led a monthly book and speakers’ program for the lederly residents of Miami Beach and supported many art museums in the area;

WHEREAS Pauline was predeceased by her husband Mark and her son Allan;

WHEREAS Pauline’s passing will leave a void in the lives of all her surviving family and friends, her son Frank, her daughter-in-law Joan Sulis-Kramer and her two granddaughters Marisa and Isabel, all of Cambridge, and her brother Leonard Schwartz of Phoenix, Arizona; and

WHEREAS: Emer Molloy was born in County Galway, Ireland in 1972; and

WHEREAS: Emer excelled in National and International Track Competitions. Winning European High School and age group titles, she still holds the Irish school girl record in the half mile; and

WHEREAS: Emer’s journey to America began in 1989. Emer was recruited by many American colleges, but Emer Malloy chose Villanova University in Philadelphia PA; and

WHEREAS: While there she was a member of the 1993 and 1994 NCAA Cross Women's Cross Country Champion. She also was a member of the 4 X 800 meter team which won then defended their title in the famed Penn Relays; and

WHEREAS: Upon graduation Emer signed to a professional track contract with Team Nike based in Boston and she competed at a professional level for two years until injury forced her to an early retirement; and

WHEREAS: Emer then returned to school in 1998 earning her Master’s Degree in Education from Simmons College in Boston. She taught in the Boston School System in 1999 and has taught first grade at the Charles Harrington School in Cambridge for the past two years; and

WHEREAS: On August 21, 2001 Emer was sworn in as an American Citizen at a ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Federal Building in Boston; now therefore be it
