Delaware Events ~ Senior LevelGeneral Rules

1. The chapter adviser must submit a complete entry form to the state office by the posted deadline.

2. All work should be that of the student under the instructional guidance of the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher during the current school year.

3. Substitutions of participants will not be allowed after the deadline date.

4. Location of entries will be assigned by event personnel.

5. Delaware FCCLA is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items.

6. Spectators, including advisers, are not permitted in the judging area.

7. Judging will be based upon the event-specific rubric.

8. Each participant will have a short interview with a judge(s). During this interview participants will be asked questions related to their product and its construction.

9. Participants are reminded to respect the work of others.

10. Participants must follow the specific guidelines for each event.

Early Childhood Exhibit – Senior Level

Early Childhood, an individual event, recognizes participants who demonstrate their knowledge and skills of child development concepts. Participants plan and construct a product from one (1) category in the list below. Participants will have a short interview with a judge(s).

Early Childhood Exhibit – Senior LevelRules

1. A student may submit only one (1) entry. Each school may submit up to eight (8) entries in the Early Childhood competition.

2. Participants will prepare a product from one of the categories listed. A bulletin board is defined as having one concept while a Learning Center is interactive, has a theme and 3 concepts.

3. All entries must be planned by the one student under the instructional guidance of the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher during the current school year.

4. All participants will have two (2) feet of table space available. Participants in the

Bulletin Board category may use a 36”x48” tri-fold board.

5. The participant must register and attend the State Leadership Conference to officially enter the event.

6. The chapter adviser must submit a complete entry form to the State Office by the posted deadline.

7. Each participant will be interviewed by a judge(s) about their product.

8. The participant’s name or school should NOT appear anywhere on the exhibit.

9. Participants are responsible to provide all materials to construct their product. This includes glue, scissors, etc. NO materials will be available from Delaware FCCLA.

10. Early Childhood Exhibits must include a theme and show what a child would learn as a result of the project.

11. FCCLA Planning Process templates are available on the national website.

Child Development Concepts are defined as an understanding of the characteristics of children at different ages including the physical, intellectual, emotional and social

characteristics. Students should be able to identify developmentally appropriate practices.

Prepared Public SpeakingSenior Level

Prepared Public Speaking, an individual event, recognizes participants who demonstrate Family and Consumer Sciences Leadership by preparing and presenting a well-organized, logical, and thoughtful speech.

Participants will prepare a manuscript, submitted in advance, on any current subject of a Family and Consumer Sciences nature. On-site, students will present their speech to a panel of judges.

1. Manuscripts are to be the work of the individual student under the instructional guidance of the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher during the current year.

2. Manuscripts must includea. cover page including only the speech title, participant’s name, chapter, and year;

no decorationsb. font size: 12 point using Times New Romanc. follow current APA guidelines for references and bibliographyd. include a complete and accurate bibliographye. do not bind or staple the manuscript

3. Speech shall be a minimum of five (5) minutes but not longer than seven (7) minutes.

4. Manuscripts will be judged prior to the event. Manuscripts must be received in the State Office by Thursday, March 15, 2018 by 4:30pm. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to [email protected].

5. No props/visual aids may be used during the speech.

6. Participants may use notes when presenting their speeches.

7. Participants must register for and attend the State Leadership Conference to officially enter the event.

8. The chapter adviser must submit a completed entry form to the State Office by the posted deadline.

2. Participants will plan a dinner menu and then prepare a place setting to complement that menu. Menus should be nutritionally well-balanced and a meal that the participant could prepare.

3. All entries must be prepared by the student under the instructional guidance of the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher during the current school year.

4. Each participant will have 3 feet of table space available.

5. Each participant will supply their own utensils, accessories, cloths, etc.

6. Alcohol may not be used in exhibit, including the menu.

7. Place your project summary and project documentation pages on the table with your place setting.

8. The participant must attend the State Leadership Conference to officially enter the event.

9. The chapter adviser must submit a complete entry form to the State Office by the posted deadline.

10. Each entrant will be interviewed by a judge(s) about their product.
