What is the FMS? The FMS is a seven test grading system that scores movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, we can identify movement limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce sporting performance, increase your risk of injury and distort your body awareness. The FMS generates a score which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns. Students need to complete the tests and discuss their score and their target score with their PE teacher. The total score will give them an idea of what training they should be doing. The individual scores for each test will highlight specific areas of the body they need to focus on. These will be given to each pupil the lesson following the testing.

What does my score mean?

Teachers will test and monitor your score across your school career to track progress and to help identify those exercises that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength in each individual.

The FMS generates a score which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.

The FMS is a seven test grading system that scores movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, we can identify movement limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce sporting performance, increase your risk of injury and distort your body awareness.

The Optimal Performance Pyramid

Within the PE curriculum we are keen to promote a long term healthy and injury free lifestyle; as well as providing building blocks for movement efficiency that can be taken in to the Games programme. We want to work with our pupils to help minimise their chance of injury as they grow and make them as effective as they can be within their physical capability.
