If you are also tall and keen on high-fashion straight from the catwalk, you may even find yourself strut-ting down the catwalk. The pencil slim thinnest fig-ure is often very athletic or genetically structured to be thin. Sometimes the thinnest body types simply can’t add any weight if they wanted to. But try to identify your character style, to stop the danger of over shopping!

If you are confident enough you can often wear body hugging lycra clothes. But this figure type can take bold prints and/or unusual shaped clothing in textured fabrics. The more conceptually modern and textured the better, eg: fur, feathers, lace, leather, satin, angora. Also strappy evening dresses can work if you aren’t too thin on top. Otherwise go wild with flounces, chiffon frills, draped layers or cowl necked tops and pleats – anything that will give you less of a boyish look to your body. Then show off your tiny waist and pull in the fabric to give glamour. You could even try soft draped see-through sleeves if you are conscious of your chest or arms. You are also a good figure type for jeans, but don’t wear them too boyish, too tight or skinny, and try to be more ambitious for evening wear, us-ing ruffled blouses to add shape. Often these figure types want to avoid looking too androgynous, un-less of course this is the punky, sporty or tomboy look you are after. If this is what you want and you have a healthy lifestyle, a mannish style can look chic or radical.

For underwear you could try and experiment with balconette or gel type bras as long as they are com-fortable, to add that little bit of extra oomph when wearing body con styles. You can get away with very dramatic mannish shapes or draped styles for evening, also try more textured clothing for daywear like a tailored wool jacket with a peplum to empha-sise your shape. Work shirts with gathered bust sections or frills and ruching over the bust can have the same effect. Be careful not to be such a clothes hanger, that the clothes wear you instead of the other way round.

Short Small SuzyIf you are a ‘Short Small Suzy’ consider shopping in

an outlet that caters for you eg: Precis Petite or simi-

lar. The perfect suit length for you is just below the

knee cap as this gives the illusion of height. Ensure

your sleeve lengths are right especially on a good

coat or jacket – again try to get it taken up as this

saves you looking like it is too big for you. Empire

Line dresses with shaped figure hugging seams are

perfect if you are smaller than 5’1” this also adds

height as do shorter fitted jacket styles, ending at the

hip bone.

Long Tall SallyThis is actually a make of clothes – especially suited

to taller women. They cater for women over 5’8” as

do many of the high street stores now, GAP and

NEXT included. Any designer range will possibly suit

you, but these can be expensive, try TK Max, for their

designer samples. You can wear long flowing

palazzo pants with very long dramatic coats and

cardigans. The more you cut yourself across with

horizontal lines the shorter you will look, e.g: contrast-

ing tops and bottoms and ankle straps on shoes, if

this is what you desire. Wearing a skirt length just

below the knee can make you appear gangly if you

are very tall, so go for a longer length skirt or just

above the knee. You can wear the layered look to

great effect, but bring bright colour down towards the

ground with flat patent ballet pumps or coloured
