Objectives: The student will analyze the impact of the age of discovery and expansion into the Americas, Africa and Asia (SSWH10) Essential Question: Why was the Columbian Exchange so profound?

Directions: In partners, create a children’s story that describes your journey as a plant/food/animal from the Old World to the New World or from the New World to the Old World. Remember to create a story, as opposed to a simple retelling of history.

Basic Requirements

Length & Page Requirementso MUST be 16 pages total

Front cover; should include a catchy title & the names of authors 14 pages of content/text Back cover

o Each page MUST include Text Relevant illustrations Color

o Should be NEAT, WELL DONE and CREATIVEo Should be written in 1st person, as if you are actually the plant/food/animal

Main “character” should have a catchy name (i.e. Spud the Potato, Porky the Pig, Ms. Maizey Corn…)o (Extra points can be earned for exceptional illustrations, rhyme schemes, etc.)

***Your assignment is to create a fun, entertaining and historically accurate story that would appeal to the average 3rd grader!!

Storyline Requirements

You MUST cover the following topics in your story…

1. BIRTH PLACE : Where were you first located? Be specific. Who first used you and how did they use you?2. TRAVELS : How did you get from one world to the other? Who brought you to this new place? What did you experience on your travels?3. NEW HOME : How did people react to you when you arrived in your new world? How did they change you or use you differently? 4. HISTORICAL IMPACT : In what ways did you change their culture? How would the world be different if it were not for your travels?
