In a world of stiffening competition, business strategy is more crucial than ever. Yet most organizations
struggle in this area--not with formulating strategy but with executing it, or putting their strategy into
action.
Owing to execution failures, companies realize just a fraction of the financial performance promised in
their strategic plans. It doesn't have to be that way, maintain David Norton in The Execution Premium.
Building on breakthrough works on strategy-focused organizations, the author describes a multistage
system that enables you to gain measurable benefits from your carefully formulated business strategy.
You will learn how to: Develop an effective strategy--with tools such as SWOT analysis, vision formulation,
and strategic change agendas; Plan execution of the strategy--through portfolios of strategic initiatives
linked to strategy maps and Balanced Scorecards; Put your strategy into action--by integrating operational
tools such as process dashboards, rolling forecasts, and activity-based costing; and Test and update your
strategy--using carefully designed management meetings to review operational and strategic data.

Inventory – The Wheel of Life Directions: The eight sections
in the Wheel of Life represent Balance. Seeing the center of
the wheel as zero (Not Satisfied) and the outer edge as 10
(Very Satisfied), rank your level of satisfaction with each life
area by drawing a curved line to create a new outer edge
(see example). The new perimeter of the circle represents
the Wheel of Life.
If your life had to roll along on the perimeter you just
created with your ratings, how bumpy would your ride be if
this were your wheel? Where are you spending your focus
of time? Is that satisfying to you? What changes would you
like to make as a result of taking this inventory?
