“Help Feed the
Students”
Of CFOT School in Sierra Leone
Middle School students will be sell-
ing popcorn every Tuesday at noon
with a goal to send $250/month to
help feed our friends in Sierra Leo-
ne. Also, during early dismissal
days, we will be selling popcorn and
other healthy snacks. All items will
be $1 or $2. Did you know that for
just $2/day a child can
eat 3 meals? Please
help us “Feed the Stu-
dents”
The CICS Elementary will present their Christmas play, “A Mouse’s

Grade 2
Grade Two is really moving in their reading. Every-
one is working in new guided reading levels. Please
continue to read daily with your child. In writing
we are developing our ideas by writing strong sen-
tences. We are adding details so our readers have a
much clearer picture of what we are trying to con-
vey. Please practice adding double numbers as well
as the friendly numbers to 10. We need to know
those so we can learn our new strategies of near
doubles and bridging through ten. We have been
working with near doubles and some still do not
know their doubles which prevents them from us-
ing this strategy effectively. The next few weeks we
will be busy preparing for the Christmas play and
trying to keep on track with our math outcomes
and developing our reading and writing skills.
Grade 4
Grade 4 has been working hard in literacy and
focusing on reading comprehension. They
should be continuing to read every night for
15 to 20 minutes and you can help your child
by asking them questions about what they
have read.
In math, the students are able to identify and
continue patterns. They can also build pat-
terns using blocks, tiles, etc. from a given ta-
ble or chart. They really enjoy math stations,
especially the math games!
Chessie of the Quoddy Tides came to interview us! In litera-
cy, K. and 1 are working hard on new word families: -ump, -
all, and –ing. Lots of new sight words, too. Using “and” and
“but” to join 2 shorter sentences together and using periods
are goals. In math, we are writing number sentences, count-
ing up and back to 50, skip counting by 2, 5 and 10. We are
making equal groups of objects to help us count. Sometimes
we have leftovers. And we are learning how to show this on
a number line!
Grade 5 Grade 5 students have become familiar with Canada’s
Food Guide. During this unit, we assessed a friend’s eat-
ing habits and made information pamphlets summariz-
ing their habits as well as recommendations to attain a
healthier lifestyle. We will soon be moving on to our
next unit “Mes vêtements”.
Bonne semaine!

Middle School Math: Grade 6 students are busy
working on their new outcome, table of values.
They are reminded to play Dreambox at home!
The grade 7 class have started a new unit on cir-
cles and area while the grade 8 class has started
working on measuring prisms and cylinders.
Middle School Science: The grade 6 class just
started working on a new unit, “electricity”,
while the grade 7/8 Science class are currently
investigating ocean basins. Middle School
Technology: The grade 7/8 class are about to
begin ar new pilot program “Educode”. They
are the only class in the entire district who
have been provided this opportunity.
Middle School students had a great day
on Friday in Language Arts class and
Social Studies doing some cross-
curricular STEM projects. Students
spent time learning about the proper-
ties of matter (a science topic) through
watching and listening to a video, along
with reading an article (LA) about where
rare minerals are being mined (Social
Studies). This was a fun day and they
will be doing more of these activities on
Fridays throughout the year.
A few pictures from
the Grade 6-9 field
trip to Fredericton in
November.
They visited the
Legislature build-
ing and NB Sports
Hall of Fame.
Theme of the month: Respect
High School English
In Grades 10, 11 and 12 English, students are work-
ing on completing a final essay on their respective
novels, and will be having a final test this week. We
will be starting a Shakespeare unit before exams.
In Grades 10 and 11, students are working on their
grammar skills through use of quill.org. They can ac-
cess this site at home to practice skills.
Ms. Lee’s bit:
Woot Woot! Let’s go December!!
The semester is zooming by! Now is a good chance to take stock of your work in all of your courses! Before the craziness of December starts, check and complete al missing assignments! Seek extra help if you are struggling with a concept or missed class. If you miss class (appointments / basketball / other), remember that you have an hour of work / class to catch up on … get the notes and assign-ments missed. Try to figure it out yourself, ask your friends and extra help of-fered by your teachers. Eve-ryone get your snow dance on! Outdoor Pursuits class needs some snow!!!
From the World of Mathematics
Math 9 students are just finishing up the unit on Ex-
ponents and the various laws. Next up…..linear rela-
tions.
NFR 10 students are working on slope. Slope is just a
math term for rate of change, grade, and steepness.
Students are going to be writing equations using
slope and y-intercept this week.
Those in Foundations 11 took turns being the teacher
for Law of Sines. They recently had to spend time re-
searching then presenting a lesson to their class-
mates. We will be moving on to Law of Cosines and
other trigonometry areas.
Pre Calc 12A students finished up logarithm and ex-
ponential functions and have moved on to the unit
circle. Students should be checking the website
http://www.unb.ca/fredericton/science/depts/math/
placement/sample.html to ensure they are prepared
for their entrance exams for university.
Students should be checking Powerschool regularly
to ensure they are completing all assignments.

I can’t believe it,
I made it
through the en-
tire School. I
couldn’t have
done it without
you all. I want to
thank my teach-
ers so much for
all the things they have taught me,
even when I thought I didn’t need
them.
I would also like to thank all of my
friends that were there to socialize
with me, be great friends, and be
there when I need them most.
And most importantly, I would like to
thank my family members for believ-
ing in me, and helping me all the
way to help grow my future career…
I cannot thank you all enough for all
the great
times you
have given
me, here’s to
the future of
my life. Thank
you all so
much…

Mitchell
Thank you to everyone that has
helped me get this far. Thank you
to all the coaches and teammates,
teachers, and friends and family
that have been there throughout
the past 13 years.
To my coaches and teammates,
thank you for teaching me pa-
tience. Not just patience with oth-
ers but patience with myself. You
have all helped me realize that it
takes a lot of practice to get the hang of something new. You
guys helped me deal with things like rough game, hard prac-
tices, and teamwork makes the dream work.
To my teachers, thank you for teaching me not to give up
just because somethings hard. I’ve been known to leave
questions blank when I’m unsure of how to do them, but
thanks to mainly Mrs. Searles and Ms. Lee for always call-
ing me out on it and making me go back and do them. You
have all shown me that trying and failing is still better than
not trying at all.
To my friends, new and old, thank you. From the friends
that were there to help me up when I fell on the playground
to the friends that helped me out during my grade 11 slump.
You all showed me loyalty and compassion.
And to my family thank you for being there for me and be-
lieving in me no matter what I set my mind to. Thank you
for teaching me that no matter what I always have someone
there supporting me. And finally, thank you to my left knee
for being there to support me even when my right knee
couldn’t.
Thank you to everyone that has
helped me since day one. You
will never know how truly I ap-
preciate everything you have
done for me these past years.

I AM Poem by Emma
I am different
I wonder why water is wet
I hear my classmates being fool-
ish
I see lots of books
I want to go home
I am different,
I pretend to do my work
I feel tired
I touch my soft desk
I worry that the rain won’t ever
stop
I Am Poem by Harper
I am brave and courageous
I wonder why things are the way they are
I hear people talking behind each other’s
backs
I see people roaming down the halls
I am brave and courageous
I pretend to be what I want to be
I feel excited when I win a game
I touch cold ice in the winter
I worry that I will get lost
I am brave and courageous
I AM Poem by Jaxon
I am funny and athletic I pretend to be an NBA player I understand
that I’m 11
I wonder why KFC tastes so good I feel a Sharpie years old
I hear a Lamborghini I touch a banana I say
“KFC, KFC, KFC!”
I see the Canadian Flag I worry about snakes I dream to be better
