Village Consultations
(September 7, 2006, Belmopan)
The National Association of Village Councils is pleased to announce that it will be visiting three
villages in each district of Belize to conduct informational interviews with Village Council
Chairpersons. NAVCO aims to help Village Councils generate income to increase Village Funds,
in order to further promote rural development. NAVCO is investigating profit producing ideas
with each of the villages, to assist the Village Councils in maintaining their own source of
sustainable revenue. NAVCO strives to achieve these goals by other means than increasing
taxes. Some ideas that have been discussed are national parks, trade licenses in the village,
management of natural resources, and village fundraisers benefiting village councils. If you have
any suggestions, questions or comments concerning your village or community please email it
to: [email protected]. NAVCO began with the Toledo District, and visited
Rogelio Oliva, Chairman of Big Falls. NAVCO also visited Felicia Ramclam, Chairwoman of
Eldridgeville Village. These productive meetings help NAVCO gain a clearer understanding of
village life and village concerns. NAVCO has plans to visit Belize, Orange Walk, Corozal, Cayo,
and Stann Creek Districts within the next two months.
