As we go to press, both originals are available along with their beautiful giclees on canvas. See our Shopper Page for a third new canvas giclée by Joyce. Recently I came across an issue of our 1987 Vignette and read our interview with Joyce Clark. Her insightful message moved me to share her quotes with you… “Achieving a plateau of professionalism in art begins with a state of mind; the knowing or recognizing that the love of art, the creative process, is your life’s blood. It began for me at the age of nine when there was a choice to play with friends or try out a wonderful gift – my first set of poster paints. As the saying goes, ‘I was hooked’. Becoming an artist, from the first glimmering, is truly a matter of choice. An important choice because it so often is a matter of time, dedication and discipline. Even the subconscious, in sleep, is filing new, exciting material. A casual walk or swim conjures up nuances of color and value. Besides the pleasure and joy of loving your work, public acceptance is a positive end result that allows the artist to move ahead. Life as an artist is part dedication and also change. As an artist you grow and accept change as it flows over you or overwhelms you. The scope of the professional artist depends on individual awareness, imagination and insight and results in a very personal observation expressing the basic nature of the artist himself. A professional creates paintings that communicate, define and express his love of the subject as well as the dignity of man. Call it creative intuition, imagination or ‘gut feeling’, the final result is the product of integrity and faith in one’s own being.” Joyce Clark 1987 As Joyce enters her 90th year, we all send our loving best wishes for many more years of painting her glorious oils. I am privileged to represent the works of Joyce Clark. Her dedication and skill inspire all who view her work. As usual, our year is flying by. With six months of terrific shows behind us, we present an exciting schedule, for the rest of the year spotlighting even more of our fantastic artists. To all our many clients and friends, I extend my grateful mahalo for always stopping by and giving us your encouragement and support. My Village Gallery staff is exceptional. I want to thank them for their dedication to the Arts and to our clients. Thank you, Anne KenKnight, Chris Schmidt Stuart Sharp, Davo, Zilla Adams, Cathy Apo and our newest consultant, Mona Harris. My association with all the fine artists we represent is a joy and privilege. I couldn’t wish for a more satisfying vocation. Our artists are constantly finding new ways to explore their craft, and what a thrill for me to watch it happen. Our delightful Village Gift Shop is becoming a very popular stop in Lahaina. Come by!
