Recently I came across an issue ofour 1987 Vignette and read ourinterview with Joyce Clark. Herinsightful message moved me toshare her quotes with you… “Achieving a plateau ofprofessionalism in art begins with astate of mind; the knowing orrecognizing that the love of art, thecreative process, is your life’s blood. It began for me at the age of ninewhen there was a choice to play with friends or try out a wonderful gift – my first set of poster paints. As the saying goes, ‘I was hooked’.Becoming an artist, from the first glimmering, is truly a matter of choice. An important choicebecause it so often is a matter of time, dedication and discipline. Even the subconscious, in sleep, isfiling new, exciting material. A casual walk or swim conjures up nuances of color and value.
Besides the pleasure and joy of loving your work, public acceptance is a positive end result thatallows the artist to move ahead. Life as an artist is part dedication and also change. As an artistyou grow and accept change as it flows over you or overwhelms you. The scope of the professionalartist depends on individual awareness, imagination and insight and results in a very personalobservation expressing the basic nature of the artist himself. A professional creates paintings thatcommunicate, define and express his love of the subject as well as the dignity of man. Call itcreative intuition, imagination or ‘gut feeling’, the final result is the product of integrity and faith inone’s own being.” Joyce Clark 1987As Joyce enters her 90th year, we all send our loving best wishes for many more years of painting
her glorious oils. I am privileged to represent the works of Joyce Clark. Her dedication and skillinspire all who view her work.
As usual, our year is flying by. With six months ofterrific shows behind us, we present an excitingschedule, for the rest of the year spotlighting evenmore of our fantastic artists.
