International Tax Assis-tance Program: File By

April 15th

The International Student Life Office (ISL) is now offering tax assistance for international (non-resident) students and their dependents. The tax program includes access to GLACIER (tax software pro-gram), tax workshops, walk-in sessions, and appointments.

To complete your federal tax forms you will need to make sure you have all necessary documents including your passport, visa, and the exact dates you were in the U.S. in the last 6 years. You should also have any tax-related doc-uments that you may have received from your employer. Then you will need to e-mail [email protected] from your UGA e-mail account to re-ceive instructions and a pass-word for using the GLACIER

software. You can visit www.glaciertax.com to do your federal taxes.

If you worked or received income in 2011, then you will also need to file a Georgia state tax form. First, though, make sure your federal taxes are completed. You can re-ceive help from ISL to do your Georgia state taxes. If your GLACIER tax prepara-tion form says “1040NR-EZ” then you can attend ISL tax workshops or walk-in hours to receive assistance. If you form says “1040NR” then you will need to contact the ISL office ([email protected]).

As a reminder all interna-tional students who were present in the U.S. in 2011 will need to file some type of tax form. Questions regard-ing the International Tax As-sistance Program can be di-rected to the International

Student Life office at (706) 542-5867. Below are the dates and times for tax workshops hosted by ISL:

A. Coffee Hour Walk-Ins:

Every Friday from February 17 through April 6 (excluding March 16) between 11:30 am and 1:15 pm in the Memorial Hall Ballroom Balcony.

B. Extra Workshops:

Trip to H-Mart! Are you staying around cam-pus the weekend that spring break begins? If so, then you won’t want to miss another fantastic opportunity to stock up on your favorite grocer-ies, produce, meats, and more at H-Mart in Duluth (near Atlanta)! On Saturday, March 10th, we’ll be taking

a university bus to H-Mart. We will be leaving the Fami-ly & Graduate Housing of-fice parking lot at 11:00 am and returning by 3:30 pm. To learn more about H-Mart, visit www.hmart.com.

It takes approximately one hour to drive to the store and

one hour back. There is a food court in the supermar-ket, with a delicious variety of hot meals and baked goods, so you can enjoy a nice lunch when we arrive! To sign up, you will need to check your e-mail for a link to the sign-up form online.

Spring Break for the University of Georgia is the week of March 12th-16th. While classes will not meet, most University offices will be

The process for RETURNING resident sign-up begins on Monday March 5, 2012 and will continue until 5:00 PM on Friday, March 9, 2012. During this week all resi-dent who wish to return will be guaranteed their same apartment if sign-up occurs by the deadline on March 9th.

Remember, this initial process is for stu-dents wanting to return to the same apart-ment. After that time, we will be working on the transfer process .

We are planning to begin the process of assigning new students the week of March 12, 2012. So any apartment not assigned by that time will be available for new residents.

Some important things to keep in mind if you are signing up for next year:

1. You will need to have your RMS ID and password in order to get into the system. This is the same ID and password you have used in the assignments process on the past. If you have forgotten this information, con-tact the Family and Graduate Housing Of-fice at 706-542-1473

2. You will be receiving information through the listserv regarding sign-ups.

Please review that information before March 5th.

3. Building R will be closing in May 2012 and, therefore, will not be available. Cur-rent residents of Building R will be receiv-ing separate information regarding the sign-up process for the 2012-2013 year.

4. Newly renovated Building Q will open for the 2012-2013 year (residents of Build-ing R will receive preference when making assignments to that building).

5. If you would like to transfer to another building, please submit a transfer request to the Family and Graduate Housing Office before.

If you are not renewing your contract with us, we are sorry to see you leave, but we know that means that some exciting move is about to happen for you such as field study, data collection, or that your hard work has paid off and you will be graduating soon. Please make sure you submit your Intent to Vacate form to the office by the deadline of March 15, 2012 so that we can properly plan your check out at the end of the year.

It’s that time again! Fami-ly and Grad-uate Hous-ing will soon open up its Garden Plots for residents to grow their own crops behind Building Q. The ground will soon be tilled and prepared for Spring planting! The garden will be divided into about 50 plots.

In early March residents who are inter-ested in having a plot at the garden will get a stake at the Family and Graduate Housing Office starting at 9:00 AM (we will send out the date via e-mail). The stake will then be taken by the resident to the garden where he/she can pick the location of their choice. Stakes are issued on a first come/first served basis until all have been taken. Prior reservations will not be accepted.

Family & Graduate Housing will soon be posting and accepting applications for at least one Resident Manager (RM) position, including Area III and poten-tially additional areas based on upcom-ing staffing needs. Positions are live-in and include an apartment. Applicants must either live in Family and Graduate Housing or be eligible to live in Family and Graduate Housing. Please note that candidates for the Area III position must meet the Family and Graduate Housing requirements for assignment to be eligible for a one bedroom apart-ment. Employment is year-round and in-cludes 24 hour duty coverage rotating on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Compensation includes the resident manager apartment and a monthly sti-

pend. Training and shadowing for this position will be in May and solo duty coverage will begin in June. Additional training with University Housing will take place in August. Those interested in applying are en-couraged to talk to current Resident Managers to gain a better understand-ing of the job. Applicants should be highly organized, self-motivated, flexi-ble individuals who have the time and ability to devote approximately 20 hours a week to the job with most events and meetings occurring on weekday evenings and weekends. Ap-plicants should also have a means of quick transportation such as a car or scooter. Candidates must be enrolled in a Uni-versity of Georgia degree program pri-

or to applying. A Resident Manager cannot hold an assistantship or part-time job while serving in this posi-tion. Both domestic and international students are encouraged to apply. Application packets will be available beginning on Thursday, March 1st and completed packets will be due to the office by Friday, March 16th. Inter-views with chosen applicants will take place on the evening of Monday, April 2nd. You must be available throughout the summer to be considered for this position. Summer is a busy time for Family & Graduate Housing. Residents who will be studying abroad or will be spending significant time away are dis-courage from applying.
