Traffic noise abatement updateWe continue to talk to TxDOT repre-sentatives about ways to reduce I-45 traffic noise for Panorama residents. Two possible solutions have been discussed, a 20-foot wall along the twenty-first cart path and a new technology called “Quiet Pavement” which would entail adding grooves to the driving surface of the southbound I-45 lanes.

We have engaged the services of CSTI Acoustics, a Houston-based sound engi-neering company, to help us take traffic noise measurements at various locations in Panorama, and plan to submit those findings to TxDOT in December. TxDOT is also adding several measurement points to a new sound modeling survey they conducted in October.

The Men’s Golf Association (MGA) was established in 1968 and has been meeting on the second Saturday ever since. Originally, in order to play with the MGA, a man must have been a member of Panorama Country Club. But now that Panorama Golf Club is a public course, you must either be a PGC member or pay to play there, and have a GHIN established golf handicap.

The group has established rules and regulations, and plays tournaments that range from 2-man scrambles to indi-vidual medal play. Their yearly sched-ule is posted on the bulletin board in the Pro Shop and includes two special tournaments each year. The Christ-mas Red Tee 2-Man Scramble and the Fourth of July Red White and Blue Tee ABC 3-Man Tournament. Members 60-80 years old play from the black tees, 80+ play from the red tees, and all others play from the white tees.

The yearly dues are $25 and each tournament fee is $15. The MGA year runs from November to November with the Championship Tournament played in October. All monies collected go to club credits as prizes and can be spent in the Pro Shop or Clubhouse.

Jessie Brawner has been running the MGA for eleven years and would be glad to answer any questions about the MGA. He proudly said that MGA members have helped the club over the

years. Recently they bought the popcorn machine for the bar and donated toward the outdoor furniture. They are looking toward power washing and staining the deck area outside the Pro Shop. Annu-ally they coordinate the Christmas fund of donations that go to the maintenance crew and Pro Shop staff.

These guys have a great time together and welcome new members. I asked for some “stories” from the group. I decid-ed to leave out the names and let you guess who these yarns are about. One member hit into the hazard on #18, lost his balance on the next shot, fell backwards into the water and somehow never got his shoes wet!! Picture that!

On #8 a member threw his club and it flew right through a second story residence window! To the left of #27 one member when trying to retrieve his ball, sank past his knees in black mud while his teammates just laughed. He had to go wash off at the cart barn before continuing!

One scramble team turned in their scorecard four times with the wrong score after being asked to recheck it. They would have won first prize, but an incor-rect card didn’t allow that! One member showed up wearing one golf shoe and a house slipper. When he returned after changing, he had on the matching pair… another golf shoe and slipper!!! Come be a part of this fun group of men!!!

Fly Fishing Club being formedPanorama resident Bill Heugel is interested in forming a club of fly fishing enthusiasts. The club would gather on a regular basis to discuss various aspects of fly fishing, such as fly tying, rod building and cast-ing, as well as the purchase of equipment. The best locations for freshwater and saltwater fly fishing would also be discussed.

Bill has contacts at Montgomery County and Houston area fly fishing clubs, and could help coordinate with their meetings and activities. If you’re interested in helping him start a Panora-ma club, please call him at 936-228-2578.
