Van Gogh is now one of the most well-known post-Impressionist painters.

30 March 1853 was born in Groot Zundert in the

southern Netherlands

Childhood went through strictness of his father

Vincent was set away in boarding school, that

abandoned in the age of 16

After this, he got fixed up in firm Goupil & Cie as an art

dealer

Through many years Van Gogh couldn’t find

himself

He stayed with Goupil & Cie. for seven more years.

In 1873 he was transferred to the London branch of the company

(The relationship between Vincent and Goupil's

became more strained as the years passed)

So, in 1875 he was transferred to the Paris branch of the firm

Beginnings as an Artist

begin his art studies

Vincent was

inspired to begin

these studies as a

result of financial

help from his

brother, Theo

First works In 1882 Van Gogh met

Clasina Maria Hoornik (“Sien“)

She was poor woman, who worked as prostitute in order to survive. Van Gogh admitted her to his house. And Sien became his first model of line “Sorrow”

Unfortunately, their love wasn’t long enough. Vincent’s parents censured Sien and stoped to support Vincent with money

Turning Point 1885: The First Great Works

In the early months of 1885 Van Gogh continued

his series of portraits of peasants

The greatest work of period is “The Potato Eaters”

Although angered and upset by any criticism of the

work by Vincent's friend and fellow artist, Anthon

van Rappard, he was pleased with the result and

thus began a new, more confident and technically accomplished phase of his career.

The lonely and passionate Vincent had moved to Arles, in the South of France

Gogh had nervous breakdown.

He cut a piece of his ear and give to his favorite prostitute

He was found in his flat, covered with blood

After this he was put up in psychological clinic

On 27 July 1890, aged 37, Van Gogh is believed to have shot himself in the chest with a revolver
