“Virginia Premiere Theatre with its excep-tional productions is a major addition to our artistic environment. Our region will be greatly enriched." Jeanne Zeidler, Mayor of Williamsburg

"The Australian Embassy congratulates Virginia Premiere Theatre on its recent pre-miere of Simon Brook's ‘The Waiting Room’ and recognizes such projects as valuable to fostering international understanding through cultural exchange." Ron Ramsey, Director of Cultural Affairs

Virginia Premiere Theatre (VPT) is dedicated to enriching local communities, enhancing economic prosperity, educating youth and bringing national recognition to Virginia’s arts through live performing arts. Specializing in new play development and world premieres, the company has hosted Broadway, national and international performing artists as well as award-winning playwrights and best-selling authors at its two theatre locations. VPT offers numerous educational programs suitable for universities, schools and adult learning programs and civic organizations year round. EDUCATION & COMMUNITY IMPACT

Serves thousands of students through

educational programs in universities and schools through tours to urban and rural communities;

Employs interns from area universities,

providing initial professional experience to graduated seniors;

Provides free tickets to economically

challenged youth;

Develops youth programming for

cultural centers; and

Performs in senior centers and

retirement communities.

Virginia Premiere Theatre delivers an immeasurable richness to the lives of its participants, thus improving the community’s overall quality of life. But it also creates jobs, and generates revenue and tax dollars that sustain its communities. Consider the following economic impact data: ECONOMIC IMPACT (FY 2007-08) ( t o t a l i n d u s t r y i m p a c t o f o r g a n i z a t i o n s & a u d i e n c e s )

Total Expenditures: $871,739

Full-time Equivalent Jobs: 23.4

Local Taxes & Fees Generated: $41,573

State Taxes & Fees Generated: $43,667

As these numbers reveal, the value of the arts to building — and sustaining — Virginia’s communities cannot be overemphasized.

For America's 400th Anniversary in 2007, VPT’s staff created four original scripts for American’s 400th Anniversary including a CBS Television Special, and many of its resident artists contributed to the 400th events. For the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's participation in America's 400th Anniversary, VPT created "Winning Liberty Land", an original musical comedy about historic events at Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown.
