VIRTUAL KINETIC IMMERSION PLATFORM FOR TREATMENT OF PTSD Meggitt Training Systems presents an innovative approach to the treatment and prevention of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The Virtual Kinetic Immersion Platform (VKIP) is a scientifically validated, patent pending system, that produces extreme stress levels to prepare forces for the mental and emotional challenges faced during deployment. In addition, the VKIP can be used for returning forces, helping them recover from traumatic events that lead to PTSD. In partnership with Western Illinois University and the University of South Florida, Meggitt’s extensive research led to significant PTSD findings to include: Successful production of a controlled environment that replicates stress levels of Iraq and Afghanistan deployments. Meggitt’s immersion tools and methods dramatically improved training effectiveness. A phased transition to a virtual reality environment where the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) is activated scientifically validated Meggitt’s tools/methods to create real-world survival stress conditions. Meggitt Training Systems’ VKIP offers tactile, auditory, olfactory and visual stimuli, in conjunction with a library of high-fidelity combat environment scenarios. The warriors view themselves parenthetically, heightening their immersion into the scenario. This allows them to gradually withdraw from the traumatic event without the aid of training or medical professionals. An induction vest is provided as part of the VKIP, replicating the protective and load-bearing equipment utilized in combat. The vest contains devices to emulate concussion and impact, as well as various aromas that are common during a combat situation. The VKIP architecture of combat theater, the experience of specific terrain, and the addition of auditory, olfactory, visual and tactile stimuli provide a revolutionary level of feedback to bring the traumatic experiences and events as close to reality as possible. This high fidelity enables the warrior to experience and relive traumatic events, and, when appropriate, allows them to influence the outcome. In essence, they are able to experience the battle with new associations and perspectives. Pre-deployment training scenarios present high-stress incidents to expose the warrior to the physiological and psychological elements of a combat environment. Through resiliency exposure, the warrior recognizes combat environmental stress factors, understands the physiological and psychological consequences in a combat environment and is exposed to traumatic battlefield events before ever engaging in combat operations. 296 Brogdon Road | Suwanee, GA 30024 | Phone: +1 678 288 1090 In the US: +1 800 813 9046 | Fax: +1 678 288 1515 | Email: [email protected] | meggitttrainingsystems.com

In partnership with Western Illinois University and the University of South Florida, Meggitt’s extensive research led to significant PTSD findings to include:

• Successful production of a controlled environment that replicates stress levels of Iraq and Afghanistan deployments. • Meggitt’s immersion tools and methods dramatically improved training effectiveness. • A phased transition to a virtual reality environment where the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) is activated

scientifically validated Meggitt’s tools/methods to create real-world survival stress conditions.

Additional research and protocol development with the US Department of Defense provides the most realistic and therapeutic PTSD treatment and pre-deployment preparation available today.

The PTSD LabMeggitt Training Systems offers advanced training technology in a self-contained, portable package to provide medical professionals the option of deployable capability or an office environment. • The projector and CPU components are enclosed in a mil-con case. • The system is placed on the floor and set up in a matter of minutes, or can be quickly installed to a ceiling mount. • A wireless touch screen tablet provides ease of use, while an intuitive graphic interface eliminates the need for lengthy

operator training. • A look-back camera is provided for the patient, as well as for the medical professional, to review the session. • The widescreen HD display creates an immersive training environment which is critical in experiencing the realities of

traumatic events. • The foundation of Meggitt’s virtual treatment systems, Induction Courseware, provides specific personalized scenarios

such as IED rollover, sniper, RPG’s and small arms fire. • Standard scenarios are also provided to meet a wide variety of needs.

Additional options allow the care facility to choose the level of treatment: • FATS® L7 virtual simulation system • Advanced audio system for real-world “holographic sounds” • Vortex cannons to simulate impact or touch • LED lights to simulate flash bangs or blasts • Floor mounting system (stanchions) • Shrapnel cannons (Optional) • Hostile Fire System (HFS) • Afghanistan replicated-walls for lab or other building use (Optional) • 10 Human Factors HD scenarios with VKIP triggers • 5 remake military scenarios with VKIP triggers

Cost of PTSD Immersive Training • Cost estimates of PTSD and major depression for two years after deployment range from $5,900 to $25,760 per case. • Applying these per-case estimates to the proportion of the entire population of 1.64 million deployed service members

who are currently suffering from PTSD or depression, estimates of total societal costs of these conditions range from $4.0 to $6.2 billion, depending on whether the costs of lives lost to suicide are included (Rand Study 2008).

• If 100% of those needing care for PTSD and depression received timely and meaningful evidence-based treatment, the cost could be reduced by as much as $1.7 billion, or $1,063 per returning veteran. These savings come from increases in productivity and reductions in the expected number of suicides.

Program Value • The Meggitt Training Systems research offers the first and best opportunity to prevent PTSD. • Meggitt’s research through Meggitt’s VKIP immersion provides more effective treatment and expedited recovery for

warriors suffering from PTSD. • Prevention and recovery is projected to save millions of dollars in conventional PTSD treatment and care. • Pre-deployment training effectiveness dramatically improves for warriors utilizing this environment.
