• In a couple of years almost everybody will have a mobile phone with internet, GPS and a high quality camera.

• Those 3 embedded “phone” functions are a powerful combination and will result in a boost of “geotagging”.

• Ow..and not to forget the expected implementation of GPS as standard feature in digital cameras.

• When everybody uploads their images and videos we´ll get a database full of media over the years.

• But when everybody does this, the maps will become a mess and more a pain than a benefit.

Past, Present and Future



• Just using a location will be far from enough. My plan is, except using a location, to use a very important factor too:

the Time Factor.

So now comes my idea!



• My friends asked me to join on the yearly outdoor festival ´Mystery Land´ with almost 60.000 visitors. This festival takes place in the area you see below. I’m going to look for some information about previous editions.

1. So first I’m going to Google Maps and zoom into the area to find photos and videos.2. In the next step I’m going to make an exect selection of the area where I’m looking for photos, videos and…perhaps more…

..by drawing a square… ..or by drawing a shape.



• Then we fill in the date fields. The example above will show us the photos and movies created on august 23th, 2008 from 3:30PM till 4:00 PM.



• And this will be the synoptical result when the Time Factor is applicable. (instead of hundreds of results without Virtual Moment)





• As another example we can also select the area, fill in the year and as a tag we fill in “Mystery Land”. Now only the pictures with the tag “Mystery Land” made in 2008 will be shown. And that will be a lot!

But, there are more possibilities …!



Textual examples


More and more news websites mark their news on Google Maps. This in combination with the Time Factor makes Virtual Moment even more valuable.

And the same is valid for the weather. By storing the weather conditions in a specific area at every hour, statistics can easily be made.

In the future everybody can see how the world is changing.

Virtual Moment will become a unique user interface.




• Imagine the result if you select a couple of years and realize that the festival Mystery Land was at different locations every year. We only have to select the Events button and search for “Mystery Land”.

Commercial implementation


We can add Google Ads based on the tags of the photo or video, or…




…based on the content of a news article.




Also with marked events there could be put links to websites to upcoming events in the same area or same category.


So…



• The history will be visual. • Looking back in the past will be very detailed.• Searching for pictures and videos will be very easy and quick.• One access point to all news sources.• And many, many more…

Advantages for everyone


There are possibilities for… • …advertising (Google Ads)• …future web applications (Web 2.0)• …a supporting feature for social media. (Facebook, MySpace etc.)
